Here in Wakefield less than 10% of your general waste now goes to landfill!
The contents of your Household Waste bin are still sorted and separated at our waste treatment facility in South Kirkby. Plastic bottles are recycled from your general rubbish bin and food tubs, trays, packaging and punnets are sent for recycling wherever possible.β»οΈ
In Wakefield we only use off takers based in the UK to recycle our products, the market is variable and off taker demand for different types of plastic does change. If there is no current recycling market in the UK for recycling the other types of plastic, such as tubs, trays and packaging, they will be recovered and used to create fuel. π‘
Although plastic bottles are still recycled from the general rubbish bin, we always recommend recycling them in the brown recycling bin instead, because the contents of the recycling bin are of a much higher quality because they are not contaminated with general rubbish and are therefore easier to recycle. β»οΈ
We also separate the food waste from your green Household Waste bin and treat it through a process called Anaerobic digestion. π₯β»οΈ
