We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sandy Towers. His loss is felt throughout the club, and it brings to mind just how profoundly he shaped our club over the decades. Sandy was a constant presence — rowing at Rock and at regattas far and wide, including the Isles of Scilly.
Remarkably, he continued rowing with us well into his 70s, 80s, and even 90s, always bringing a quiet kindness and steady determination that inspired everyone around him. We’ll never forget the time he brought his physio to rowing — a testament to his unwavering spirit. After an illness, he set himself two goals: to walk to church again, and to return to rowing. In true Sandy fashion, he achieved both.
When we invested in two new training gigs, it felt only natural to name one of them Sandy T — a lasting tribute to someone who embodied the heart of our club. His legacy lives on, not just in the boat that bears his name, but in the spirit of resilience and camaraderie he brought to us all.
