ICE CREAM DEBATE… LET’S SETTLE THIS! 🍦

One of life’s BIG questions… what’s your go-to ice cream? And yes, we’re asking the important questions here at Safeguard!

Our team enjoy a little ice cream treat, but now we want to hear from YOU!

🍦 Mr Whippy or a traditional scoop in a cone?

🍨 What’s your favourite flavour? Vanilla, chocolate, mint choc chip, strawberry… or something a little more unusual?

🍫 Sprinkles, sauce, both or neither?

We’re lucky to have so many fantastic ice cream sellers in our local area, so let’s give them some love too! Tell us your favourite place to grab an ice cream in Bournemouth or Poole.

WE NEED YOU! LET’S MAKE THIS ONE COUNT!

On Saturday 14th November, Safeguard Community Support is teaming up with The Antelope Inn for a fundraising day, and we’d love to see as many of you there as possible!

From face painting and a children’s lucky dip to horse racing, darts and a raffle, there’ll be plenty going on, with something for everyone to enjoy.

But this is about more than just a great day out. Every ticket bought, every prize donated and every person who comes along helps us continue supporting our local community.

We need your help to make it a success!

Can you help us spread the word? Share this post, tag your friends and get the date in your diary!

We’re also looking for raffle prizes, vouchers, hampers and experiences. If you’re a local business or know someone who could help, we’d love to hear from you.

A QUIET NIGHT, BUT PLENTY OF POSITIVE CONNECTIONS!

Not every patrol is about dealing with problems. Sometimes, the best nights are about the people we meet along the way.

Last night was a quiet one in town, with a strong police presence from officers visiting from different counties. It was great to have a chance to chat with them, share some positive interactions and even receive an invitation to sit in the van and watch the match!

We also had some lovely interactions with members of the public, reminding us that a friendly face, a quick chat and a visible presence can make a real difference to the community.

At Safeguard, we believe that safer communities are built through connection, cooperation and people looking out for one another.

BUSY TOWN, BIG EVENTS… BUT HOW DID THE NIGHT GO?

With a show on at the BIC and football fans arriving ahead of tomorrow’s big match, Bournemouth town centre had a noticeably busier feel last night.

There was also a significant police presence, but despite the extra activity and people out enjoying themselves, everything remained calm and our team reported no issues.

It’s a great reminder that a busy town doesn’t have to mean a problematic one. People should be able to enjoy everything Bournemouth has to offer, and our volunteers are there to help keep things positive.

🌟 FROM TRAINEE TO TEAM LEADER IN JUST A FEW MONTHS! 🌟

Meet Mandy, our September Safeguard Superstar! 👏💙

Since joining Safeguard Community Support in June, Mandy has made an incredible impression on our team through her commitment, compassion and enthusiasm for helping others.

What began as a desire to give something back to her community has become a truly inspiring journey.

From her first trainee patrol to completing training, regularly volunteering and recently being appointed as one of our Patrol Team Leaders, Mandy has embraced every opportunity with positivity and determination.

She’s already proving to be a fantastic leader, building strong relationships, supporting fellow volunteers and earning the respect and confidence of those around her.

💙 But there’s something else that makes Mandy’s story special.

Mandy has shared how joining Safeguard helped her rediscover her confidence, make new friendships and find what she describes as an extended family.

And that’s what volunteering is all about. Not just making a difference to others, but discovering what being part of a supportive community can do for you too.

In recognition of her outstanding contribution, Mandy has received her Safeguard Superstar Certificate and a £50 Love2shop gift voucher! 🏆

Why I Volunteer: One Volunteers story.

Not everyone’s journey is straightforward, and sometimes the people who want to make the biggest difference are those who have seen things from a different perspective.

One of our volunteers has shared their personal reason for joining Safeguard, and it’s a powerful reminder that people can turn their lives around and use their experiences to give something back.

Having grown up in the Bournemouth and Poole community, they saw changes that made them want to do something positive. After reflecting on their own experiences as a young person, they made the decision to change direction and find a way to give back to the community they have always called home.

Having discovered Safeguard just before their 18th birthday, they applied as soon as they were old enough. From their very first training patrols, they knew they had made the right decision.

Today, they have a firsthand understanding of just how much Safeguard does for our community, and how much our volunteers genuinely care about making our town a better place.

Their story is a reminder that your past doesn’t have to define your future, and everyone deserves the opportunity to make a positive difference.

We are incredibly proud to have volunteers who bring their own experiences, compassion and commitment to our streets.

QUIET NIGHT? THAT’S NOT A REASON TO STAY HOME!

Thankfully, Bournemouth had a quieter evening, but that doesn’t mean our teams weren’t out doing what they do best.

Our volunteers were out on patrol, keeping an eye on the town, checking in with people and offering a friendly face to anyone who needed one.

Not every night brings a big incident, and we’re always happy when things are peaceful. But being visible, approachable and ready to help is what Safeguard is all about.

SAFEGUARD MYTH BUSTER

Myth: “The council does not engage with Safeguard.”

Fact: Safeguard Community Support engages with the council in the same way as other voluntary organisations.

Our team meets with a council representative every six weeks to discuss upcoming events, community concerns, ongoing issues and other relevant matters.

These meetings help maintain clear communication and provide a regular opportunity to share information and discuss our work in the community. We value this ongoing engagement and are pleased it continues.

Council engagement should not be confused with formal endorsement. We want to be clear and accurate about the relationship we have.

A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO ADWEAR LTD!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Adwear Ltd, based on Ferndown Industrial Estate, for their incredibly generous donation of brand-new, branded sweaters for our Safeguard Community Support volunteers!

With the colder months fast approaching, these sweaters will make a real difference to our dedicated volunteers who give up their own time, often in freezing conditions, to help keep our communities safe.

It’s acts of kindness and generosity like this that remind us just how fortunate we are to have such fantastic local businesses supporting what we do.
