Curtis had his first movement therapy session this week! The student helped Curtis to pick a bear feeling card for how he might be feeling about joining therapy for the first time. The student helped Curtis to feel safe and looked after by building him a safe house out of the props. There was some time for a 'chill out' with Curtis in his den at the end of the session. Movement Therapy is coordinated by Rhea.

May is Apraxia Awareness Month
This month, we are recognising Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) alongside other Speech Sound Disorders (SSDs) to help raise awareness and celebrate the resilience, determination, and progress shown by our students.

Speech sound difficulties are not caused by laziness or lack of understanding and children do not simply “grow out of them.” With the right support and therapy, people can make fantastic progress.

In therapy sessions, we use evidence-based approaches tailored to each student’s individual needs. Therapy is designed to be engaging and motivating, incorporating students’ individual interests while providing frequent opportunities for targeted speech practice to help establish new motor programmes. Students are supported to build confidence through positive and successful experiences.

Curtis has had a great day celebrating 'No Pens Day Wednesday' with the SaLT team.
First, he was using stick puppets to tell simple narratives with Oliver class.
Then he joined a middle school English class to learn about Shape Coding. He played a 'corners' game to match different words to their Shape Coding shape, and then a board game to generate our own words and sentences to fit the shapes and sentence patterns.

Minecraft continues to be a highly popular platform for children, combining creativity, problem-solving and social interaction.

While the game can offer positive opportunities for learning and play, features such as public servers, multiplayer modes and in-game communication can create safeguarding challenges.

Our latest guide supports educators and parents in understanding these risks and helping children play more safely.

The guide explores:
• Public server communication and contact with unknown players
• Griefing, disruptive behaviour and online conflict
• In-game spending and subscription costs
• Addictive gameplay loops and balanced screen time
• Safer settings, private servers and suitable game modes

With clear, practical advice, the guide helps adults set boundaries, encourage safer choices and support responsible Minecraft use.
