Uttoxeter Cycling Club The Uttoxeter Cycling Club | The Official page | Staffordshire Uttoxeter Cycling Club Rides

It’s the best way to progress your cycling.

You’ll learn how to ride safely and efficiently in a group and it’s far easier to head out for a winter training ride knowing you’ll be with a group of mates rather than on your own. There is a regular club ride on Sunday mornings, and a training ride is often organised for Tuesday evenings. We meet at the Uttoxeter Leisure Centre where there is plenty of space for us to gather. There is also the

car park for club members should you wish to come by car. We aim to leave punctually at set times, please arrive and be ready to go before then so nobody gets cold waiting for latecomers. We usually split into several groups so we involve and meet the needs of riders of all abilities. Every rider is advised to familiarise themselves with the route, i.e. distance, ascent, expected riding time, etc, so as to join the correct group. We ask that all riders come well prepared for all rides, and recommend the following:

•Helmet (Compulsory)
•Two Spare Inner Tubes
•A Tool Kit (incl. Puncture Repair Kit, Two Tyre Levers and a Pump)
•Water Bottles
•Energy Bars
•Lights (Front and Rear)

The correct clothing is also recommended , especially for winter rides. Sunday Club Runs
0900 every Sunday, Uttoxeter Leisure Centre Car Park

The Sunday club run is the bedrock of every cycling club, it’s a chance to get out and to get to know your club mates and improve your fitness at the same time. The groups are distinguished by their expected speed/pace and the routes are published in advance, usually on a Wednesday night via our general email-group and published on our page. We have five different groups to choose from, catering for a wide range of abilities. Weekday Rides
1830 every Tuesday, Uttoxeter Leisure Centre Car Park

These rides are more informal in nature than our Sunday club rides. These take place every Tuesday. Routes and number of groups are established right before setting off depending on who turns up on the night. The distances vary from about 20 miles to 40 miles. New members are advised to seek guidance from others on who to ride with so as to avoid any disappointment from joining the wrong group. Further club rides will be published in advance. Clubrun Etiquette

•Come prepared - everyone should have a pump and inner tube/puncture repair kit
•Choose the right group! If you're not sure go with a slower group rather than a faster one. You can always move up next time.
•Ride 2 abreast when safe to do so. The group should stay as compact as possible in 2 lines
•Never ride more than 2 abreast, move into single file when traffic is busy or the road is narrow
•Always follow the Highway Code, remember when on a clubrun you are representing the club

🚨 Cyclists – Leathersley Lane is under threat! 🚨
A major sand and gravel quarry is being proposed just off Leathersley Lane in Sudbury – a peaceful, scenic route enjoyed by many local cyclists.
If approved, this quiet rural lane could be turned into a haul route for up to 300 HGV movements every single day – that’s a lorry entering or leaving the site every 2.5 minutes during working hours.
⚠️ Cyclists have been completely ignored.
The developer has not mentioned cyclists at all in any of their planning documents.
There are no safety assessments, no mitigation plans, and no dedicated infrastructure to protect vulnerable road users.
Why it matters:
Leathersley Lane is narrow, unlit, and has limited visibility – a recipe for danger when shared with 20-tonne trucks.
It’s a well-used cycling route – putting everyday riders and club groups at serious risk.
Dust, noise, and diesel pollution will spoil the environment and harm health.
The quarry would operate for 11 years – turning a favourite cycling route into a danger zone.
🗣️ We need your voice to keep this route safe.

Purpose of the Survey: The Parish Council has held a number of meetings and listened carefully to resident feedback about the proposed quarry development. While we understand that the development may go ahead, we are now focusing on the measures that could be taken to reduce its impact on our commun...
