🚨 Cyclists – Leathersley Lane is under threat! 🚨
A major sand and gravel quarry is being proposed just off Leathersley Lane in Sudbury – a peaceful, scenic route enjoyed by many local cyclists.
If approved, this quiet rural lane could be turned into a haul route for up to 300 HGV movements every single day – that’s a lorry entering or leaving the site every 2.5 minutes during working hours.
⚠️ Cyclists have been completely ignored.
The developer has not mentioned cyclists at all in any of their planning documents.
There are no safety assessments, no mitigation plans, and no dedicated infrastructure to protect vulnerable road users.
Why it matters:
Leathersley Lane is narrow, unlit, and has limited visibility – a recipe for danger when shared with 20-tonne trucks.
It’s a well-used cycling route – putting everyday riders and club groups at serious risk.
Dust, noise, and diesel pollution will spoil the environment and harm health.
The quarry would operate for 11 years – turning a favourite cycling route into a danger zone.
