This week is Volunteers’ Week.
Every evening, all around Uttoxeter and surrounds, groups of girls have been taking part in fantastic activities led by amazing Girlguiding volunteers.
As the local commissioner I have visited many of these groups this week to deliver thank you badges to the volunteers and thank them for their work with Girlguiding. I have had the privilege of seeing 4 and 5 year old Rainbows leading games for one another; Brownies searching the library on a treasure hunt then totally engaged interviewing the librarian about the library, books and her job; Rainbows making video book reviews; Guides meeting at B&M to work on an activity in a real life setting; Rainbows in a tent using their imaginations and joining in a storytelling session (with a few camp skills thrown in!); more Guides trying to identify celebrities from clues written by their friends (guess what – their leader was one of the celebrities!); Rangers sending balloon powered rockets along a corridor with great success and much hilarity; Rainbows learning about sea safety through actions and more Rainbows making ice cream in a bag.
This wasn’t happening because it is Volunteers’ Week. This happens week in, week out all year round. Volunteers in Girlguiding give the girls they lead the best experiences, enabling them to grow into confident, rounded young women with skills for life.
Thank you to all Girlguiding Uttoxeter volunteers. You truly are amazing, giving your time and skills for the girls in our community.

Girlguiding is the UK's largest youth organization dedicated entirely to girls. It provides a safe, girls-only space where young women can build confidence, develop leadership skills, try new activities, and make friends.
