Sawpit Woods It is brilliant in the woods; come and join us for a bit of creative play, adventuring and exploring We love being outside, so does everybody.

It is a natural place to play and learn, which we all as humans have the innate drive to do. Having worked as an Art teacher in secondary schools, a childminder, a mother, a Kindergarten teacher and a Reception teacher I have been inspired by a long history of educators and Forest School and hope to bring a bit of their ideals and modern magic to play and learn in an engaged, joyful and fantastic way in the woods. I am planning to run Forest School sessions for pre-school children and their parents on a weekly basis, and work part time as a Reception class teacher. If you would like to find out more….there will be some more information to come....

🙏🏻 Thank you to everyone who came to our Samhain + Coppice Club event on the 1st of November. What a lovely afternoon!

It was a joy to welcome so many of you here and take time to slow down, enjoy the woods and spend time crafting making and being together.

We welcomed in the turn of the year and the coming of winter darkness by making dream catchers and chatting around the fire. We also got busy in the woods starting to make hazel hurdles for a future shelter and learning practical greenwood skills - the kids and adults alike got involved in both and also had a joyful time playing in the woods. We ended our time by sharing gratitude around the fire and starting to think ahead to the next winter events.

Time spent together slowly and gently in the woods is just the tonic we all need. We purposefully don’t pack too much in to our events to allow time to slow down, unwind and just be. If you’d like to learn a simple craft or share activities together in the future.. please do be in touch. We want to co-create this community into a place and space where everyone feels so welcome and truly themselves.

🔥Do join us on the 29th of November for more fun, making and being together… and then later on December 21. We hope you’ll have a really restful winter and we see you in the woods again soon.

It’s a joyful welcome back to the woods for the new season!

We’re looking forward to marking Mabon, the midpoint between summer and winter solstice, when the harvest is in and the days start turning toward the darker months. Gather with us, a fire, some seasonal foraging and whatever the woods hand us that weekend. We’ll craft and play together and share reflections on the summer, so get as involved as you like, or just come for tea and play.

This year we’re folding in a bit of Coppice Club too, so there’ll be some simple woodland skills and tasks on hand for anyone who wants to get their hands dirty and stuck in.

Coppice Club is our regular gathering to tend the woods together, coppicing hazel, making woodland products and picking up woodcraft skills as we go.

Booking essential, at sawpitwoods.co.uk 🌳

We have some beautiful, gentle gatherings at the height of summer in the woods, as we held our midweek Campfire Clubs.

People of all ages came together round the fire. Singing, talking, listening. Some light tools work, some songs, some play, some tea. No rush, no big programme. The woods do the rest.

The heat has been rising across the region this summer, and on one of the days we were at the height of it. Everyone deeply appreciated the cool of the woods and the calming energy of the company.

We had some water play for the younger ones too, a good way to cool down between songs.

It felt like a fitting end to what has been a vibrant year in the woods.

We also welcomed Wealden District Council to one of our sessions, so they could see a little of what we do here. That visit ties into our grant funding, and the work we are doing to reach out to local groups who might not otherwise find their way into the woods.

Now we will take some time for rest and play. Summer asks for that too. But we cannot wait to return in September.

–

Save the date for Mabon on Saturday 19th September, marking the midpoint between the summer and winter solstices, a time of harvest and gratitude as we turn toward the darker, colder months.

Samhain on Saturday 24th October, the ancient Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the start of the darker half of the year.

And Coppice Club sessions to follow soon too. 🧡

We’re still in the height of it — long evenings, full canopy, the woods at their most alive.

Join us for the second in our summer series of evening gatherings at Sawpit Woods. We’ll be round the fire again: singing, talking, listening. Plus we’ll be checking in on Coppice Club, getting the tools out to do some summer woodworking.

These evenings are about connection as much as anything else — to the place, to each other, to the particular feeling of being outside in July when there’s nowhere else you’d rather be. Come and potter, come and sit, join in some gentle singing or woodland tending and craft. Bring the kids and let them roam. The woods do the rest.

Kettle on the fire, bring your own snacks. Booking Essential. Tickets are £10 per family.
