Hello everyone! This evening, we have something for you all to ponder and give us your thoughts on.
This piece of worked animal bone with a nail through it was found at Minster Roman villa excavations some years ago and has recently re surfaced during sorting of finds boxes.
What do you think? What was it for?

Take a walk through the Hortus Romanus, our recreated Roman garden, where we have reconstructed what a heatwave in the second century AD would look like. (It appears the second century gardeners have messed up the sound so low volume is probably best).

A frequent visitor to the Hortus Romanus has been this magnificent Peacock who has regaled the Villa owners and the second century gardeners with both bloodcurdling cries and superb tail feather displays. Luckily he has avoided the hunt for special treats in the annual round of religious festivals and entertainment the Villa owners must endure.

It has become customary to celebrate the start of the Chelsea Flower show with a flashback to the garden's of the Roman era with an update on the Hortus Romanus. After some damage from an extended barbarian incursion, the villa owners managed to round up the second century gardeners who had escaped in the confusion, getting them back to work refurbishing the Hortus and restoring order in the general area.
