Fantastic News for the Townsend Community Growers 🥳
We’re absolutely delighted to announce that the Townsend Community Growers site has been awarded a Green Flag Community Award 2026 – a nationally recognised mark of quality for parks and green spaces. Townsend Community Garden is listed as a 2026 Green Flag Community Award winner in the South West region.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Green Flag Awards and the Townsend Community Growers site is one of a record-breaking number of community spaces across the UK to receive this prestigious recognition. The award celebrates the hard work, passion and dedication of those who care for community green spaces.
The Green Flag Community Award recognises high quality green spaces managed by voluntary and community groups, highlighting the positive difference they make to local people and neighbourhoods.
Anne Melly, Chair of the Townsend Community Growers, said:
"We are incredibly proud to receive this Green Flag Community Award. Our community garden has been built through the dedication, enthusiasm and kindness of volunteers, residents and supporters who have worked together to create a welcoming space. This award is recognition of the positive impact that community led projects can have, bringing people together, improving wellbeing, supporting nature and creating a real sense of pride in our neighbourhood. Thank you to everyone who has played a part in this achievement."
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported Townsend Community Growers over the years. Your commitment has helped create a vibrant, welcoming and environmentally friendly space where people can connect, learn new skills, improve wellbeing and enjoy nature together.
We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together and look forward to continuing to grow, develop and share our garden with the community.
