Chris will offer his perspective on safe and compliant diving operations from an oil and gas company.

Diving risk is often associated with upstream oil and gas production, where saturation and surface nitrox diving operations are routinely performed under the IMCA guidance framework. While this perception is understandable, over 65% of all diving activities and approximately 90% of all surface air diving activities support midstream and downstream operations, as well as the aviation and lubricants sectors in less regulated environments.

This presentation provides an overview of where diving activities are conducted within an oil and gas company and highlights challenges and how technology is being used to reduce the need for diver involvement in inspection-related activities

What do divers need to know about Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) and Immersion Pulmonary Oedema (IPO)?

Join us for an insightful session with cardiologist Dr Mark Turner, an authority on PFOs and diving medicine, as he explores the implications of these conditions for divers.

A PFO affects around 25% of the population and is often harmless. However, for technical divers, its presence can have significant implications for decompression and diving safety.
Dr Turner will explore the underlying physiology, the real-world risks for divers, and the options available, including PFO closure for those looking to continue diving.

We're looking forward to welcoming ADC members to the Annual AGM in Birmingham next month.

Mike O’Meara, Chairman of the Historical Diving Society will be sharing his insights into the diving challenges he's faced in his career, including:

- In 1981: As Diving Superintendent, Mike was involved in the successful recovery of approximately £40 million worth of gold bullion from HMS Edinburgh, at a depth of 800 feet in the Arctic Barents Sea.

- In 1988: Mike was running a diving operation on the Claymore Field when the Piper Alpha platform exploded, tragically claiming the lives of 167 people. His subsequent work included a live hot tap operation and leading the development of the Rockwater Risk Assessment Process and safety cases for five Rockwater vessels.

In 2000: Mike was part of a three-man team rapidly mobilised to Russia to negotiate and plan the first stage of the recovery operation for the submarine Kursk.
