After a busy but fulfilling few days, the IACAC conference held in Manchester has come to an end.

We shared a short closing ceremony at which outgoing members of the board prayed for those taking up roles.

It was a special joy to welcome Bishop David Walker, Bishop of Manchester, to address us.

Delegates will enjoy a final meal together, before most will begin their journeys home tomorrow.

For all that has been- thanks!
For all that is to be- yes!

The Manchester Chaplaincy team also made a presentation to Rev’d Canon George Lane to thank him for his leadership and organisation of the Conference.

This evening has brought visits to the John Rylands Museum, where we saw the oldest fragment of John’s Gospel in existence.

This morning we have shared a panel discussion about the Manchester Arena attacks and its impact on the City of Manchester.

Representatives from the Christian, Muslim, Jewish and Sikh faiths shared powerfully how their communities responded to the event in the immediate aftermath and led the response in the days afterwards, as well as exploring the role of faith groups in society today.

We ended by listening to Tony Walsh’s poem ‘This is the Place.’

After lunch, we reconvened for Rev’d Dr Chris Swift’s session on ‘Spiritual Spaces in Secular Places’.

As chaplains, who often work in multi faith contexts, it was helpful to think about the theologies and spiritualities of hospitality and availability in shared spaces.

Our morning has been shared with Canon Kim Wasey and Canon Grace Thomas, reflecting on Chaplaincy in Global Perspectives.

They invited us to consider Chaplaincy as a ‘Theodrama’ and to think about our unique Stages, Scripts, Plots and Roles.

A really thought provoking beginning to our time together!
