The two-and-a-half year restoration project at the fire-gutted Dockyard Church was completed in June 2023. The project was led by the Sheerness Dockyard Trust, with Hugh Broughton Architects and Martin Ashley Architects as designers and Coniston Ltd as contractors. The project was enabled by a £5.3m grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund - matched by support from a range of other benefactors.
The external fabric of the church has been lovingly and expertly repaired - revealing the imposing beauty of its monumental, Greek-revival architecture. The cathedral-like interior has an ethereal quality, spacious, calm and flooded with light from the banks of windows and the roof lights above. The views stretch as far as Southend in Essex.
The building is now IslandWorks, operated by Kent-based company Fruitbowl Media on a lease from the Dockyard Trust.
Fruitbowl already have successful co-working operations in prestigious locations across Kent. IslandWorks offers co-working for anyone, a startup incubator and business mentoring for young people between 16 and 30, an event and meeting room hire (home of the Sheppey Business Network – a support organisation for all local buildings), a display of the great Dockyard Model and a café.
The church is currently open from 9 – 5pm Monday – Saturday. More information can be found and sdpt.org.uk

Thank you to the many people that joined us for Saturdays event.
It was great to welcome so many new faces and long term supporters to the day and the trustees were delighted to be able to share our now completed building and fantastic cafe
Visitors were keen to share their memories and personal artefacts - pictured are John Freemans wonderful photos from over 40 years in the navy, and a lovely lady also shared her story of getting married in the church in 1964!
People were also keen to see the newly restored building and find out more about the ambitious 10 year, £9.5 million restoration project. The display of the great Dockyard Model sections was popular as well as photos and artefacts found during the project.

We would like to thank our many project funders with significant support from that made the ambitious restoration project possible.
