Launceston Hospital League of Friends was founded in 1971 to provide extra comfort and care for patients. When the Medical Centre moved to Landlake Road, we updated our constitution to include the wider community, enabling us to support both the Surgery and Community Nursing teams. Over the decades, we have raised and donated many thousands of pounds to enhance facilities at Launceston Hospital and the Medical Centre. Our support includes essential medical equipment as well as items that improve the day-to-day experience of patients. We have funded televisions, newspapers, and a telephone line to help patients stay connected with family and friends. We also provide cards and small gifts at Christmas, Easter, and on birthdays to bring joy and comfort during hospital stays. Our funding has supported a wide range of departments, including Inpatient Wards, Ward Day Rooms, Physiotherapy, Outpatients, Consultant Rooms, Midwifery, Community Nurses, Occupational Therapy, and the Bereavement Counselling Room. We rely entirely on fundraising events, donations from individuals and local groups, and gifts made in lieu of funeral flowers. We are deeply grateful to all who support our mission. Our aim is simple: to improve the quality of care and comfort for patients and to support the staff who care for them. With continued support, we hope to expand our impact and ensure Launceston remains one of the best-equipped and most compassionate healthcare communities in the region.
