Llansawel is a rural village in north Carmarthenshire. There is a village hall, The Angel pub, and public toilets in the hall car park.

The old school will be coming into community use. The village had long connections with the Edwinsford Estate. The great house, a listed building, at the heart of the estate is now in ruins, but the estate itself is managed commercially. The Black Lion and Angel pubs considerably pre-date the village hall, which was built in 1957 and is run as a charitable company (No. 1143057). The hall has a seating capacity of 180, a bar, and can be booked for licensed events. There is entry via a ramp for wheelchairs. The hall grounds include a pre-school children's centre serving the wider area, a children's playground, a riverside picnic park. and volunteer-maintained public toilets. St Sawyl's Church, within the Church in Wales, has medieval origins, and was extensively restored between 1887 and 1890. Bethel Chapel on the Esgairdawe road was built by Calvinistic Methodists about 1744, and famous Methodist preacher William Williams, Pantycelyn, married Llansawel girl Mary Francis from Penlan Farm. Shiloh Chapel, built by Independents, opened for services in October 1868.
