Connect, Discover, Create. Gecko on the Move is a nonprofit organisation educating children in mathe

Gecko on the Move teaches children and trains teachers in Mathematics on a voluntary basis in primary schools and community centres. With the support of EdxEducation's math manipulatives, teachers and students are able to create, make connections, express and problem solve in mathematics focusing on the base ten number system. At each project Gecko on the Move leaves the kit behind and returns to the same school/centre each year to build on existing practices and to ensure the project is sustainable.

The Early Years classes love exploring and playing with the new resources at Naserian School in Mto Wa Mbu. Even the teachers loved playing with them. Thanks to Jenny for training the teachers in the importance of 'play' and for donating so many resources to Geck on the Move.

🌍 Volunteer in Tanzania this November with Gecko on the Move! 🇹🇿

Looking for an adventure with purpose?

Join Gecko on the Move this November and become part of a team making a real difference in the lives of children and teachers in rural Tanzania. Whether you're helping in classrooms, supporting maths activities, or connecting with local communities, you'll leave knowing you've made a lasting impact.

✨ No teaching experience is necessary—just a willingness to help, learn, and embrace an unforgettable cultural experience.

🐵 Bonus opportunity!

After the volunteer programme, you can choose to join us in early December for a unique trip to remote western Tanzania, where we'll visit Jane Goodall's projects. This incredible extension offers the chance to learn about chimpanzee conservation, meet local communities involved in the projects, and experience one of the most beautiful and remote parts of Africa.

❤️ Change lives. Be inspired. Make lifelong friendships. Create memories you'll never forget.

If you've ever dreamed of combining meaningful volunteering with an extraordinary African adventure, we'd love to have you join us.

We Need Your Help – Gecko on the Move is Looking for New Trustees

Gecko on the Move is at an exciting stage of growth, but we urgently need a few more dedicated trustees to help guide and support our work.

For many years we have been supporting schools and teachers in East Africa, providing hands-on maths resources, teacher training, and opportunities that help children build confidence and joy in learning mathematics. What started as a small idea has grown into a charity reaching schools and communities across the region.

But for us to continue growing and supporting more children, we need strong people around the table helping shape the future of the organisation.

You don’t need to be a maths expert or have worked in Africa — we are simply looking for people who care about education, equity, and making a real difference. You only need ot donate a couple of hours of your time each month.

As a trustee you will help guide the charity, share ideas, and support the work happening on the ground.

If you have ever thought about contributing to a meaningful cause, this could be the moment.

Please message us if you would like to know more or if you know someone who might be interested.

Small charities survive because of people who care. Right now, Gecko on the Move needs a few more of those people.
