PoTS is real. Your symptoms deserve to be heard 💙

Postural tachycardia syndrome (PoTS) expert Prof Blair Grubb and colleagues are calling for greater understanding of PoTS among cardiologists.

Their message is important: PoTS symptoms are real, and they should never be dismissed as ‘just anxiety’.

Although there is still much to learn, better understanding means better care, support and hope for people living with PoTS.

Today is Restart a Heart Day 💙 If you or someone you love faints, you know how frightening it can look. Most faints are brief and the person begins to come round.

A cardiac arrest is different. If someone collapses, does not respond and is not breathing, call 999 and start CPR. Send someone for the nearest defibrillator (AED). Anyone can use one, it only shocks when necessary, and you cannot cause further harm.

Unexplained loss of consciousness can sometimes be linked to a heart rhythm disorder, so please speak to your GP if you:

✅ Have fainted during exercise
✅ Have fainted with little or no warning
✅ Have a family history of sudden unexplained death or heart rhythm conditions

🔗 Learn how an AED works with our Defibs Save Lives resources, created in collaboration with Arrhythmia Alliance: https://loom.ly/3D1-594

Do not delay and save a life today – if you see someone unresponsive phone 999 immediately, commence CPR and they will tell you to send someone to the nearest AED so that you improve chances of survival from 9% to >70%.

💙 What a fantastic morning at STARS Patients Day!

Today’s sessions have brought together patients, caregivers and experts for important conversations about syncope, fainting, and the challenges of navigating care.

From exploring how STARS continues to evolve and how patients can advocate for their health, to the latest developments in tilt-testing and the role of AI in syncope care, we have covered a wide range of topics that matter to people living with these conditions.

We have also shone a light on psychogenic syncope, the faints and falls that can go undetected, and the physical and psychological impact of syncope on patients and their families.

There have been some brilliant questions, thoughtful discussions and valuable opportunities to share perspectives. These conversations reinforce why listening to patients, recognising their experiences and helping them access the right support are so important.

A huge thank you to all our speakers for sharing their knowledge and insights, and to our session Chairs: Prof Richard Sutton and Prof Robert Sheldon for helping create a supportive space where patients and caregivers can ask questions, feel heard and learn from one another.

And there more to come! We are looking forward to the next sessions, further discussion and continuing to explore how we can improve understanding, support and care for everyone affected by syncope.

Because every experience matters, every question deserves space, and no one should have to navigate syncope alone.
