Ever wondered what it’s actually like to go surfing from a seated position?

You still get that same feeling when a wave picks you up and starts carrying you along. That little rush of WOOOO! when you feel the board speed up never gets old! 🤙

For our seated surfers, it’s a chance to get out into the sea, feel the waves and have a proper go at surfing, with our instructors there to help steer and guide along the way 💙

(And of course, Aerial has to get involved too… although we’re not quite sure if she’s helping or just having a great time charging through the water!)

Some people supply equipment. Others become part of the story.

Over the past five years, John at JP Surfboards has become a vital part of Blue Horizons.

We’ve ordered ten boards from his Swansea workshop but that number tells only a small part of the story. Those boards have already given hundreds of people the opportunity to experience surfing and throughout their lifetimes, we expect them to help thousands more get into the water.

John listens carefully to every surfer’s needs and shapes each board with the individual in mind. His knowledge, patience and enthusiasm make every conversation feel important.

At this year’s Tag Team Competition, he generously donated one of, Professional surfer, Alys Barton's performance boards and an advanced children’s foam board. Watching two young groms receive them and seeing the smiles on their faces, was incredibly special.

John, thank you for every board, every conversation and every opportunity you have helped create for our surfers.

We’re very lucky to have you beside us. 💙🌊

Also a big thank you to for your belief and support of funding and for your guidance and continued support!

Wales may be a small country but we’re proud of the impact it is making in surfing! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

A couple of weeks ago, we headed up to Newport for the opening of some brilliant new facilities at Traeth Mawr.

The team at Pembrokeshire national parks have been working on making the beach more accessible and it was lovely to be there to celebrate the launch of their Accessible Coast project.
There’s now a new access ramp down to the beach, beach wheelchairs, a Changing Places space and new public toilets, all things that can make a real difference when you’re planning a day at the beach.

And we had some familiar faces there too! Gail and Neil, two of our brilliant regulars who know a thing or two about getting out and enjoying the water! Neil first came to us through our BrainWaves project and now joins us every week. How lovely is that? 🥰

A big well done to everyone who’s helped bring these new facilities to life. The more people who can get down to the beach and enjoy the sea, the better! 🤙

📸 Thank you to Darth Marty Media photography for capturing some lovely shots on the day.

We’ve recently welcomed a delivery that’s going to make a big difference to our beach days. Our new wheelchairs are designed to help our surfers float, swim and get onto their boards more easily (because getting to the waves should be part of the fun).

Phil’s already been giving them a go and we’ll let the pictures do the talking… but I think we’ve got a winner.

A lovely big shout out to Help Charity Shop, a donation of £1000, The Ingles Charitable Trust of £500 and a private donation of £500, thank you for making this possible. These new wheels wouldn’t be here without you!

More ways to get our surfers where they want to be… in the water! 🌊

We owe such a big thank you to Barti Rum and the very talented Steven Clarey for capturing last Saturdays event!
