✨The Lobstars are coming back this Autumn✨

We are on the hunt for more participants who want to join in the fun!

Singing sessions designed for young people who love music, want to grow in confidence, and enjoy being part of a friendly, creative group!🎶

Open to all abilities, from complete beginners to those already taking music lessons. Sessions are relaxed and supportive, with warm‑ups, gentle vocal exercises and time spent learning one or two songs until the group feels confident performing them.🎤🎭

⭐️We will be back on the 15th of September⭐️–feel free to message us, though, to find out more.

Tuesdays, 5.30 pm – 6.30 pm
St Peter’s Church Rooms, Sheringham

The Youth Singing Group has a warm, easy-going atmosphere that welcomes new singers. You don’t need to be a confident singer to join — that’s something we build together. The group is friendly, supportive and relaxed (and it’s completely fine to take things at your own pace).

Alongside weekly sessions, we aim to give the group opportunities to perform. They recently held a small concert at the Hub, which was a huge success, and they’re hoping to take part in the upcoming events throughout the year.

As part of our charitable work, we aim to keep sessions FREE or as low‑cost as possible. We don’t have continuous or core funding to provide this service, so donations are gratefully received. A suggested voluntary donation of £2 per session, per young person, helps us cover costs — but no one is ever excluded if unable or unwilling to pay. Contributions of any size help us keep the choir running and accessible.

We hope to see some more Little Lobstars join our fabulous crew!⭐️🦞🎶

When we sing as a group, our breathing starts to fall into the same rhythm, and even our heart rate patterns can begin to sync up. Scientists think that shared rhythm may be one of the reasons singing helps people feel connected so quickly.

So next time we're all singing the same song, we might be getting in tune with each other in more ways than one!!

(Based on research by Ruiz-Blais, Orini & Chew (2020), who found that even non-expert singers showed synchronised heart rate variability when vocalising together.)

We're excited to be sharing more stories from across the Playing for Cake community as we begin building our YouTube channel, celebrating everything that makes Playing for Cake so special.

In this latest film, Nicky shares her experience of how singing can complement medical treatment for people living with lung conditions. Filmed during a Stronger Breaths, Brighter Voices session in Long Stratton, she talks about the difference singing can make, from gentle exercise and breath control to confidence, connection and wellbeing.

Could you spare a few hours to help at the Aylsham Show?

The Aylsham Show is looking for volunteers on Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August 2026.

The organisers are looking for individuals and teams to help with a range of roles, including:

Staffing the admission gates
Escorting pedestrians safely along the designated footpath
Driving buggies around the showground

Most shifts are around 2 to 2½ hours long. In return, volunteers will receive:

Free entry to the show
A steward's badge with access to the Members' Enclosure
£10 towards lunch or refreshments

It is a wonderful local event with a friendly atmosphere, and volunteering is a great way to be part of it. Some roles can be physically demanding and may involve a fair amount of walking, so a reasonable level of fitness is required.

If you'd like to get involved, register your interest here:

(The information provided through the form will be shared with the Aylsham Show organisers so that they can allocate roles and contact volunteers with further details).

Please complete this form to express an interest in volunteering at the Aylsham Show on Monday 31st August 2026. Please note that the data you enter will be shared outside NWCN with the Aylsham Show Organisers.
