Here's a quick look at what I've been working on locally over the past two weeks 👇

🏫 Burnhaven School – Public Consultation
I attended the recent public consultation regarding the future of Burnhaven School. It was encouraging to see such a strong turnout and hear directly from parents, residents and members of the wider community as the consultation process continues.

🏆 Pride of Buchan Awards
At Buchan Area Committee, I was delighted to see local residents Terry Moran and Natty Porter presented with the Pride of Buchan Award. Both have made a fantastic contribution to our local communities and this recognition is thoroughly deserved. Huge congratulations to you both!

🏛️ Full Council Meeting
I attended my first Full Council meeting since being elected, representing Peterhead South & Cruden and contributing to discussions on issues affecting communities across Aberdeenshire.

📮 Clerkhill Post Office
I continue to push for a Post Office service to return to Clerkhill. I've been advised that Post Office Ltd is engaging with potential new retail partners, and I'll keep pressing for progress and updating residents as matters develop.

📋 Constituent Casework
Alongside meetings and events, I've continued assisting residents with a range of local issues and progressing ongoing casework across the ward. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to get in touch.

❓ Question of the Fortnight

While it remains too early to predict exactly how weather patterns will develop over the coming months, the Met Office has warned that the El Nino currently developing in the Pacific Ocean could become the strongest in living memory and potentially the most intense since the 19th century.

Although El Nino occurs thousands of miles away in the Pacific, its influence on atmospheric circulation patterns can affect weather systems across the Atlantic and Europe.

The Met Office has identified signals suggesting an increased chance of rainfall and storminess affecting the UK as the phenomenon strengthens towards its winter peak.

Being prepared for extreme weather can make coping with it much easier. Advice is to prepare to be individually resilient for 72 hours and there is information on what you might need at the following links. This preparation is useful for any emergencies that might arise.

It's ! Do you have anything pre-loved that could be of use to others?

Our reuse containers at Banchory, Ellon, Laurencekirk, Macduff, Peterhead, Portlethen, and Stonehaven household recycling centres accept donations of electricals, furniture, and bikes.

Pre-loved items donated through the containers are safety and function checked by a local charity for resale, helping people to access affordable, high-quality products with far less carbon impact than buying new.

We also accept donations of bikes at Alford and Huntly household recycling centres; and we still accept good clean mattresses at Inverurie and Ellon.

Mattresses suitable for reuse must have...
▪ A blue fire label with the code BS7177 present,
▪ No rips or tears,
▪ No heavy staining, and
▪ A bag protecting them that can be collected for free from either Inverurie or Ellon household recycling centre if taking them there for collection.

👉 Fast and free collection of mattresses is also available via Stella's Voice Peterhead for across the region—phone 0300 303 2520 to arrange.

We ask that all visitors to our household recycling centres to check the website prior to travelling in case of a change in opening times, a need to book, a closure, to see what items are accepted, and the type of vehicles that are welcomed. When visiting, please arrive early enough to unload the vehicle before the lunchtime or end-of-day close.
