JRC Chief Executive Marc Levy was delighted to attend the Magen David Adom Northern Dinner in Manchester.

It was a fantastic evening, hearing about the incredible, life-saving work of Magen David Adom along with the dedicated teams and volunteers who provide emergency medical care across Israel.

It was a particular pleasure to meet MDA volunteer Ofir Ovadia who spoke about his extensive volunteering and life at the Tel Aviv station.

Thank you to everyone at Magen David Adom for bringing the dinner to Manchester and for giving us the opportunity to celebrate your vital work.

Today, JRC Chair Mark Adlestone and Chief Executive Marc Levy continued our political engagement, meeting with Caroline Simpson, the Chief Executive of Number 10 North along with her team as part of our ongoing engagement with national government.

From national government to our local political leadership, the JRC will continue to ensure the voice of Greater Manchester’s Jewish community is heard by speaking out on the priorities and concerns of Jewish people across the region.

We are particularly grateful to Caroline for her longstanding support for the Jewish community and her continued willingness to engage on the issues that matter to our community.

JRC Management Board member Raphi Bloom's interview with The Jewish News detailing how the leadership of Manchester’s Jewish community has faced outright rejection at every attempt to engage in meaningful dialogue with their Muslim neighbours, and how it has been repeatedly let down by a Government unwilling to confront Islamist extremism.

One year after the Heaton Park synagogue attack, Raphi Bloom says greater security cannot compensate for failures to confront extremism or the breakdown in relations between.

Three years ago today, Hamas terrorists carried out the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.

On 7 October 2023, around 1,200 men, women and children were murdered in their homes, at the Nova music festival and in their communities. A further 251 people were dragged into Gaza as hostages.

Everyone connected with the JRC remembers all the victims and those who continue to carry the scars of that fateful day.

We will never forget them. We will not look away, we will not let these murders be minimised or explained away, and we must redouble our efforts so the world never forgets.

JRC Chief Executive, Marc Levy, joined the Manchester Evening News’ Mancunian Way podcast to discuss the terrorist attack on the Jewish community on Yom Kippur, October 2nd.

Marc spoke about the aftermath of the attack, how the Jewish community is feeling now, the impact on Jewish life in Greater Manchester, and what is needed from Government to ensure our community can live safely and securely.

The conversation also looked ahead at what needs to happen now, the need to address the causes of antisemitism and extremism, and how we move forward as a community and as a society.

Thank you to the Manchester Evening News for providing an important platform for this conversation. The episode will be released over the coming days.

The JRC continued our positive engagement with the NHS across Greater Manchester this morning, bringing together key communal stakeholders for an important meeting with senior NHS leaders.

The meeting was chaired by JRC Chair Mark Adlestone OBE and provided an opportunity for our communal stakeholders to thank the NHS for the way in which it has cared for members of the Jewish community, recognising our cultural sensitivities and the importance of meaningful engagement with our community.

We discussed how this extensive engagement has helped improve the experience of Jewish patients across Greater Manchester, while also looking at how we can continue to strengthen understanding, communication and provision for our community.

We were delighted to be joined by:

• Kimberley Salmon-Jamieson – Deputy Trust Chief Executive & Chief Nursing Officer, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
• Steph Latwon – CEO, Manchester Royal Infirmary
• Gareth Adams – CEO, Clinical and Scientific Services
• Jo Rowe – CEO, North Manchester General Hospital

The JRC will continue to work closely with the NHS to ensure that the needs of the Jewish community remain understood and reflected across healthcare provision in Greater Manchester.

The motion passed by the Green Party today, on the festival of Simchat Torah and the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street, is an attack on the Jewish community.
