The BBC’s choirmaster Gareth Malone created a choir of 12 wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women of the Armed Forces to perform at the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Invictus Games in Orlando, Florida. Since Oct 16, Help for Heroes has supported the Invictus Games Choir (IGC) and as at Nov 17, has recruited 50 Wounded, Injured and Sick (WIS) veterans and medically downgraded serving military
personnel into the choir. The IGC enables participants to experience recovery through the power of music and choral singing. Singers of all abilities are welcome, providing they commit to attend rehearsals and learn all the musical pieces and adhere to the IGC Participation Agreement and Code of Conduct. In return, members of the IGC have the opportunity to be part of a new musical family, learn new skills, and if they wish, sing in some amazing locations. To date these have included Orlando in the USA, Twickenham Stadium and Canterbury Cathedral. Future bookings include the celebrations of the RAF 100 at the Bomber Command Memorial and the Royal Albert Hall.
