What a brilliant time at CRE 2026!

It was encouraging to meet so many churches interested in developing their own mentoring programmes and to see such enthusiasm for building mentoring that is intentional, relational, ethical and sustainable.

Through our Build Your Own Mentoring Programme initiative, Nicodemus walks alongside churches and organisations over a year, helping them develop the vision, skills, structures and resources needed to build a mentoring programme that can make a lasting difference in the lives of young people.

We’re delighted that so many churches are taking up the opportunity to access our bursary, generously funded by Westhill Endowment, to help make this support accessible. A huge thank you to Westhill Endowment for investing in churches and helping equip them to offer meaningful, long-term support to young people.

Would your church or organisation like to explore what this could look like?

We’d love to hear from you! Book an enquiry session to find out more about the programme by visiting https://www.nicodemustraining.org/build-your-mentoring-programme and completing the form.

Last week, we had a special time with the young adults who are part of our Youth Mentoring Programme in Chimaltenango, Guatemala.

Our programme supports a group of young people aged 18-25 as they navigate the complex transition into young adulthood. This can be a season of significant change, new responsibilities, difficult decisions, and uncertainty about the future, as well as dealing with growing up in harsh and sometimes for some, very poverty-stricken environments.

Through mentoring, we walk alongside young people in practical and personal ways. For some, this includes education support. We also provide support plans during times of crisis, specialised support when more significant challenges arise, and skills workshops covering practical areas such as budgeting, saving, accommodation, employment, relationships, managing emotions, decision-making, identity in Christ, and developing healthy routines and life skills.

Last week in our activity, we decided to simply spend time together. We played games, gathered around a bonfire, and enjoyed being together. We also had a special time of worship, taking a moment to pause, reflect, and meditate on God's goodness. Each of us shared something we were grateful for, as well as some of the challenges we are currently facing, and we prayed for one another. We finished the evening around the fire, roasting marshmallows and making s'mores together.

These moments may seem simple, but they are an important part of mentoring. Trust grows through shared experiences, honest conversations, laughter, prayer, and simply being present with one another. We are grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside these young people as they navigate the journey into adulthood, and we continue to pray that they will know God's presence, goodness, and purpose in their lives.

Our 2025 Annual Report is here! 📖

If you haven't seen it yet, we invite you to take a look through our 2025 Annual Report.

The report shares stories and highlights from across our work in Guatemala, the UK, and Latin America and the Caribbean, including youth mentoring and training mentors, to supporting vulnerable young people, families, churches, and communities.

This is an opportunity to celebrate another year of walking alongside young people through relationship, intentional care, faith, and hope. We are deeply grateful for everyone who has been part of the Nicodemus journey through prayer, generosity, partnership, and faithful support.

Earlier this month, we had the privilege of attending the annual Alianza Cristiana para los Huérfanos summit in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. This year’s theme was “Dwelling in Family” — grounded in Psalm 68:6.

“God sets the lonely in families…” — Psalm 68:6

The summit brought together around 800 leaders from across Latin America for a time of gospel-centred teaching, encouragement, connection, and reflection.

A central theme throughout the summit was the importance of recognising that our first ministry begins much closer to home. The families we live in, the relationships that shape us, and the people closest to us all influence how we understand and practise ministry. Before we seek to serve our churches and communities, we are called to pay attention to the relationships God has already entrusted to us.

This is deeply connected to the heart of Nicodemus. We believe that healthy ministry grows out of healthy relationships, and that the way we listen, care, build trust, and walk alongside people matters deeply.

During the summit, Nicodemus had the opportunity to contribute in two ways. We facilitated a workshop entitled “Hope for Youth in Transition: Building Mentoring Relationships Based on Trust,” exploring how intentional mentoring relationships can provide stability, encouragement, and hope for young people navigating significant transitions in their lives.

We also hosted a coaching table on “Facilitating Gospel-Centred Cross-Cultural Partnerships that Inspire Effective Local Development.” This provided an opportunity to reflect with leaders on how we can build partnerships that are shaped by humility, listening, trust, shared ownership, and a genuine desire to see local communities flourish.

This summit was also about the relationships built and strengthened along the way. We are praying that these connections will continue beyond the summit, creating opportunities for ongoing support, mentor training, and the equipping of programme managers who are seeking to design and develop mentoring programmes within their own contexts.

We also pray for every leader who attended. May the teaching, conversations, workshops, and relationships from these days continue to shape the way they serve when they return to their churches, organisations, and communities.

Nicodemus began in 2012 with a simple response to a group of young people in Guatemala who were facing an uncertain future after leaving residential care. What started with a commitment to walk alongside a handful of young people has grown into mentoring programmes and training that now support and equip young people, churches, and organisations across the UK, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

At the heart of our story has always been the same belief: that God works powerfully through relationships, and that one trusted mentor can make a lasting difference in a young person's life.

On our website, you can read more about how Nicodemus began and watch Cristian's powerful testimony, sharing his own journey and the impact that mentoring has had on his life.

Learning Across Generations...

One of the great privileges of our work this year has been seeing people of different generations learning and growing together at the My Special Treasure Education Centre.

At the My Special Treasure Education Centre in Chimaltenango, we provide monthly skills workshops to the final-year students. This year's group is especially inspiring, bringing together young adults in their early twenties, mothers, and grandmothers, all united by a desire to continue learning and build a brighter future.

Some of the students are preparing for the next stage of adulthood. Others spend their days working in factories, making tortillas, working at the market, or caring for children before returning to the classroom. Many of the mothers and grandmothers have not studied for decades, yet they have chosen to complete the education they never had the opportunity to finish when they were younger.

One of the most encouraging things they share with us is their reason for returning to study. They want to set an example for their children and grandchildren, showing them that education is a gift and encouraging them to continue learning throughout their lives.

Our monthly skills workshops are designed to complement their studies by building confidence, developing practical life skills, and helping participants look beyond graduation towards the opportunities that lie ahead.

It is a privilege to walk alongside this remarkable group. We continue to pray that God will encourage them, strengthen them, and use their perseverance to inspire future generations.
