Some great coverage of the Gatehouse of Fleet Community Led Housing project at Woodside!

South of Scotland Community Housing are supporting Gatehouse Development Initiative in the development of seven homes that will target the needs of local workers, particularly younger people, on a long-term derelict site.

The site was recently acquired by the community with the support of the Scottish Land Fund and today's article acknowledges the securing of £1.3m from the The Scottish Government's Regeneration Capital Grant Fund and Dumfries and Galloway Council's Town Centre Living Fund. This is a key milestone for the project that will enable progress towards site start.

Congratulations to Gatehouse Development Initiative!!

We're very excited to be taking part in the first ever 🌍 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 🌍 Well done International Center for Community Land Trusts and Rondo Community Land Trust for making it happen!

The Summit will showcase the community land movements of North and South America, Australia and Europe and — together with the Community Land Trust Network — we're running a free online event on 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝, 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 on 21st May, 4-6 p.m. (GMT+1).

You can fund out more and register at: https://www.cltweb.org/cltvirtualsummit2026/

Our event will explore the diverse community land movements of Scotland, England and Wales and how they are advancing community development and addressing social inequalities relating to the land, housing and more besides.

National overviews will be presented by Chris Dalglish and Mike Staples of South of Scotland Community Housing, Tom Chance of the Community Land Trust Network and Casey Edwards of Cwmpas.

And we'll hear from six practitioners involved in community land ownership at the grass-roots level, who will share what their community organisation is doing and the difference this is making locally:

— Megan MacInnes of Applecross Community Company and Angela Williams of The Langholm Initiative in Scotland;

— Gareth Ioan of YTC 4LLAN CLT and Sanab Hersi of GreenSoul and Cardiff CLT in Wales, and;

— Nkechi O. of Brent Community Land Trust and Christine Eden of Marshfield Community Land Trust in England.

It should be an inspiring and informative event. Do join us if you can!

2026 marks the fifth annual (May 15)—a global moment for communities to celebrate, connect, and bring visibility to the movement.

This year, we’re building on that momentum with something new:

✨ The first-ever Global CLT Virtual Summit ✨

From May 5–June 10, CLT networks across the world will host 11 online events—sharing experiences, challenges, and innovations from different contexts.

Together, these sessions create space to reclaim and honor the Black and Indigenous leadership traditions that gave rise to CLTs and continue to shape community land stewardship globally.

Co-hosted by International Center for Community Land Trusts + Rondo Community Land Trust and supported by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as part of

This week we say goodbye to Katharina Bandmann, who has been with us for 6 months as Coordinator of the Community Led Housing Alliance.

Katharina has played a central role in the growth of the Alliance, which was established in Summer 2025 and, in the short time since then, has grown substantially. Membership now stands at around 80 organisations from across Scotland.

Katharina has become well known to members, as their first point of contact in the Alliance secretariat and one of the people responsible for delivering an intense programme of member engagement leading to publication of ‘Back Scotland’s Communities to Provide More Homes’, the Alliance’s manifesto for the 2026 Holyrood election.

Thanks, Katharina, for your passion and effort! And for welcoming new members and helping to ensure that they can contribute to the development of a strong voice for the sector.

And thanks to The Nationwide Foundation for funding this vital post!

The Community Led Housing Alliance has welcomed its 75th local member, and the first from East Lothian!

Sustaining Dunbar is a community development trust which supports, enables and incubateslocal projects that help to build a more resilient community. It already runs a Community Garden, has a Community Heat Team working to improve the warmth of people’s homes, andhas delivered various nature, climate and sustainable transport initiatives.

The development trust is now exploring community-led solutions to the local shortfall in affordable housing, and we’re excited to see what they do!

With this new representation in East Lothian, the Community Led Housing Alliance now has members in 17 Local Authority areas across Scotland. Its brilliant to have such engaged members championing community led housing all over the country. Find out more about the Alliance on our webpage: https://sosch.org/community-led-housing-alliance/

Manifesto Priority 3 - Sustain Enabling Services for Community Led Housing ⁣

The Community Led Housing Alliance calls on the nation’s politicians and Scottish Government to commit to funding Scotland’s non-profit community housing enablers throughout the next Parliamentary term.

The current funding package should be renewed for a further five years (2026-3031), with immediate transitional funding to ensure continuity of service. Funding should also be provided to allow enablers to expand and enhance their services, maximise delivery of homes in the pipeline and help more communities to tackle the housing emergency where they are.
