Today is International Day of Play! ☀
Play is what happens when children and young people take control and choose what they want to do. Play has many physical and emotional benefits and is vital for their all-round wellbeing and development. All children and young people have the right to play!
At Children's Scrapstore, we support play in a whole host of ways through our in-house Messy Play sessions, Outreach Workshops, Scrapstore PlayPod programme, Play Training and our Play Rangers, all involving child-led loose parts play. You can find out more about these different play services on our website 🔗 https://www.childrensscrapstore.co.uk/play-team
These photos are of our Children's Scrapstore Play Rangers , who facilitate outdoor play sessions across Bristol using resources sustainably sourced from our scrap. The Play Rangers are there to create a welcoming environment that supports young people to feel safe and find a sense of belonging in their community.
Through the power of loose parts play children and young people can feel confident to explore, be social, be active and get creative.
"A growing body of research shows that children have better physical, mental and emotional health, and even improved learning, when they play outdoors.” Unicef, The Importance of Outdoor Play (and how to support it).
Here's to muddy knees, cardboard creations, and the magic of simply being allowed to play!
