Pumpkins are really bad for hedgehogs. Please keep them off the ground, and dispose of them carefully when you are finished with them.

Happy Halloween, we hope you are enjoying a spooky half term 🎃

It wouldn’t be Halloween without some enthusiastic pumpkin carving, however once the spooky celebrations are over, please don't leave your pumpkins on the ground, in local woods or nature reserves.

While it may feel like a good idea to leave them out for wildlife to eat, pumpkins are actually highly dangerous to hedgehogs. It cases severe tummy upsets which can often lead to life-threatening dehydration and weight loss.

You can still put your pumpkin out for wildlife in your garden, but high up on a bird table for birds and squirrels. You could also turn them into green energy by putting them in your food waste caddy. For more information on food waste, visit the link below.

Terracycle at Silchester Pavilion is suspended until further notice, due to ill health. We wish the dedicated volunteer, who has collected and sorted it all for many years, a swift recovery.

The nearest collection point is the Methodist Church car park in Mortimer.
