It’s always an honour for our club to be able to welcome the people within our community who work so hard to look after us throughout the year. And surely, this year we must say a special thanks to our local policing team in Market Drayton and the Hodnet Fire & Rescue team who, despite the extraordinary number of fires caused by the recent heatwave, were still willing to join us at the show. We really do appreciate everything you do.

Undoubtedly a favourite attraction with our youngest visitors was the scarecrow hunt, kindly provided by those incredibly talented ladies who go by the name “Yarnbenders” at River Meadows. There were dozens of Scarecrows to be found, hiding on tractors, lurking on car dashboards or peeking out from behind the curtains in the vintage caravan display. Thank you to all the Yarnbenders for the huge effort in putting this together. The scarecrows made a lot of children very happy (although exhausted many parents who were trying to keep up)!

A massive thank you to everyone who came along to the Tern Valley Vintage Machinery Trust Show yesterday. Exhibitors, traders, visitors, helpers and sponsors alike – we couldn’t do it without you, and your support once again has been amazing. Every year it just gets bigger and better! Our roving drone pilot, Nigel Alldritt, was able to get a few shots as the visitors were starting to arrive.

What a privilege to meet Paul & Phil from Stretton’s Ukraine Relief Effort and hear first hand about the great work that they are doing here in Shropshire by delivering humanitarian aid to help those in need in east Ukraine. And many thanks to all our members and guests who gave so generously (an amazing £322.72) to such a deserving cause. In Paul’s response, this is how the money will be spent. “This money will go towards our next trip which will happen very soon. This will be the delivery of a 4x4 vehicle, generators, water pumps and a mobility scooter to a church charitable organisation in the northeast of Ukraine, just 15 miles from the front line. They are supporting civilian refugees who are fleeing those areas where the fighting starts to encroach on their homes. They often need to leave with urgency and carry very little. The situation is dire.”

TVVMT is already considering how we can help further by collecting power tools and equipment locally. Please let us know if you can help.

Tonight’s talk is on Ukrainian missions of mercy. Our guest speaker is a Shropshire army veteran who has been delivering vital supplies to war-torn Ukraine for the past four years. It began as a spur of the moment decision to embark on a nine-day round trip to collect a mother in Kyiv with two young children and bring them to their “Homes for Ukraine” sponsor family in the Wirral. It wasn’t long before he had established a system for getting aid into the country on a regular basis. Dozens of similar missions have seen 4×4 vehicles delivering much-needed aid such as hospital medical supplies and generators. These vehicles are left there for use by the emergency services and charities, with the volunteers making their own way back through Ukraine into Poland, and then by train and planes back to the UK. Guests always welcome - 7:30 at Lyon Hall, Hodnet TF9 3NF
