So fine tae see a contributor ti wir book pitten in a poseetion whar shø can promote Shaetlan as a recognised language in it's ain richt - weel døn Claire White!🥳

Award-winning singer-songwriter Claire White has been appointed Shetland’s first Shaetlan scriever, taking up a year-long residency with the National Library of Scotland.

The residency gives White the opportunity to explore the richness of the National Library’s Scots language collections, as well as the space and time to produce original work in Shaetlan.

2025 brings an extra special festive season! This is the first Christmas ever that Shaetlan is at long last a formally recognised language. At the end of February in the new year it will be in the new edition of the Ethnologue, listed alongside all other formally recognised languages of the world.
