This summer London’s Imperial War Museums is hosting a free interactive exhibition exploring how children have experienced conflict from 1914 to the present day. It includes recreations of an evacuee train carriage and a Cold War-era kitchen, plus for young visitors a literary trail inspired by much-loved children’s books including War Horse.

There's still time to donate towards the Million Steps for Children which fundraiser David Middleton has taken since 1 May. “To get the million steps in is the same as doing two marathons and five half-marathons every week,” he says, “but there is a serious side to this. Think about what these children are having to cope with. Almost half the world’s refugees are children. Over 50 million of them have no place to go to school. A similar number have lost the homes and communities they grew up in. They desperately need our help.” You can help them via our website today.
