Hi everyone! My name is Ellie and I’m the newest recruit to Basingstoke T**s and Teats πŸ’•

Having attended a meet up in early Summer, I was so inspired by the rest of the team that I decided to train to be a peer supporter with and have nearly finished πŸŽ‰

After discharging us from hospital the day I gave birth, we were back into transitional care the day after because of jaundice (and my daughter was hypoglycaemic which I didn’t know until I requested our hospital notes! πŸ₯Ί)

The staff at the neonatal unit were amazing, but nevertheless I didn’t really know what to do, they encouraged me to pump, but I didn’t really know why - surely my baby would wake for feeds and my milk would come in?! I completely didn’t take into account that a jaundiced baby would be a sleepy one.

Cut to today, we’re 8 months into our 🍈 🍈 journey, and I’m so proud! From the little lady who didn’t gain weight for a week (shout out to my amazing midwife who saw I was broken and referred me for a feeding assessment) and was put on a different feeding plan every appointment we went to (😫) my daughter is crawling and trying to stand (even while feeding) 🀣

Taking inspiration from Katie, Grace and Daniella, I really hope our journey lasts into year 2 and beyond πŸ’• it’s such a lovely time!

Hello πŸ‘‹ I am Katie and Mama to a toddler and currently pregnant with my second. My boobie obsessed little girl self weaned at 2 years 7 months of breastfeeding 🀍πŸ₯Ί Breastfeeding didn't come naturally to me at all, it was honestly harder than my birth! My ni***es bled and were incredibly sore for so many weeks, my milk took 6 days to come in due to my post-partum haemorrhage, baby lost over 10% of her weight and had jaundice and engorgement, pumping, ni**le pads, leaking and blocked ducts have not been at all glamorous or fun! But, we made it through the hardest bit and it became our favourite thing to do together and our special bonding time. It's been such a huge achievement to have been able to give her this gift for as long as she's wanted it. She's hardly ever been sick, never had tummy or digestive issues, reflux, colic or nasty infections and I honestly put it down to the power of boobie milk! It's soothed her on countless nights to sleep, reduced her teething pain, relaxed her, comforted her, healed her and made her feel better and loved β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή It was also my saving Grace whilst battling the black dog of post-natal depression and anxiety as it felt like it was the one thing I could do to protect her from the crazy outside world during Covid time. It's been a beautiful, hard and empowering journey for us both and I wasn't prepared for it to end πŸ₯² I love being an ABM peer supporter and it is important to me because I feel so strongly about their being more support out there for Mama's to breastfeed and being empowered to do so πŸ’ͺ

Hey all 😊 I'm Grace and this is a photo of me nursing my 5 month old with my almost 3 year old coming for a cuddle 😍

My toddler nursed throughout my pregnancy and we tandem fed for a very short period after the baby came along and he naturally weaned at 2.5yo 🀱

After a rocky start and him only nursing from one side, I found how helpful building a village of breastfeeding support was. The new addition does nurse from both sides πŸŽ‰ but we had an even rockier start πŸ˜…

I am qualified as an ABM peer supporter and love being able to meet and support other parents with their journeys ❀️ there will be new dates for socials coming soon! πŸ’•

Apologies for being a bit slow to post on here. There are 4 qualified breastfeeding peer supporters and coordinators running this page, so allow us to kick off the introductions. 😊

I'm Daniella and this is a photo of me feeding my then 2yo (now 3yo).πŸ™‹ A milestone I never thought possible considering the bumpy start we've had. It took us about 4 months to get breastfeeding off the ground and for both of us to become comfortable with it, but we made it to 2 years and 2 months πŸŽ‰ I have since qualified as an ABM Breastfeeding Peer Supporter and love being part of this group and meeting and supporting other new parents.

I currently have a 3yo girl and am expecting a boy in October this year so I'll get to go on this wild ride (hopefully a little less wild πŸ˜„) again soon. ❀️

Welcome to our page and I hope to get a chance to meet some of you at our upcoming meet ups (dates still TBC). πŸ’•

For the most part society accepts young babies breastfeeding. But toddlers - that's a whole other ball game. Here are five reasons it is completely normal.
