Talyllyn Railway Historic narrow-gauge steam railway running through unspoilt Snowdonia. The line runs from Tywyn. The trip takes about an hour each way.

Experience the nostalgia of historic steam trains in some of Wales’ finest countryside. The railway starts on the coast at Tywyn, snakes through the foothills of Cader Idris to Dolgoch Falls, Abergynolwyn and Nant Gwernol. The train clings to the hillside as it passes through woodland and over ravines. Your ticket allows you to break your journey and extend your day: you could take a country walk, explore wooded paths, discover waterfalls or visit the beach. Tywyn Wharf station is home to the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum, which tells the story of little railways across Britain, and King’s Cafe which has hot and cold menus, lunch time specials and a licensed bar. Quarryman’s Tea Room at Abergynolwyn serves a range of refreshments and light bites.

By now, the last train of the 2026 season has returned to Wharf, and our volunteers will have returned the engines to their shed at Pendre.

We'd like to thank everyone who has supported us this year by visiting during our 75th anniversary year.

As always, a huge round of applause to all our wonderful staff and volunteers who keep the wheels turning on our Railway with a Heart of Gold!

Don't despair, though! We have a fantastic selection of Christmas events coming up, and we're running daily between Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

No.3 'Sir Haydn' & No.4 'Edward Thomas' double head the first train through Quarry Siding this morning - this double header is in memory of long standing TR volunteer Donald Heath who sadly passed away earlier this year.

On our guided experience, ‘Y Tren Nadolig Fictoraidd’, you can learn about the Victorian origins of many of our present-day Christmas Traditions, tales of distinctly Welsh ways of celebrating, and practices now lost to the mists of time.

Included is a Festive Cream Tea at Abergynolwyn, and unique photo opportunities with your decorated Victorian train as you wend your way along the beautiful Fathew Valley.
