🎯 A great start for Target Sports in Tynemouth District!
A fantastic morning at Holy Saviours Scout and Guide HQ Saturday, as our new District air r***e programme got properly underway, with the session mainly attended by young people from 1st Meadowell Scouts.
It was a great opportunity for them to try target shooting on our indoor range, build confidence and learn a new skill in a safe, supervised environment.
The session also marks the start of a change in direction for Tynemouth District Adventurous Activities. While our original plans included developing District-level paddlesports, it became clear that this wasn’t going to be practical in the way originally envisaged. With the agreement of Sport England, we have therefore refocused that element of the project towards target sports, building on our air r***e provision with archery next on the agenda.
A huge thank you to Sport England for supporting the project and giving us the flexibility to make that change so the funding continues to create real opportunities for young people across the District.
We’re also very grateful to St Alban Lodge No. 5322, whose support following the Caledonian Canal Challenge helped us purchase the District’s air r***es. Today was a chance to see that support turned into something tangible, with young people actually getting to use the equipment and enjoy the activity.
This is also just the first of a wider programme of District Adventurous Activities sessions we’re looking to develop, including not only air r***es and archery, but also walking, climbing and abseiling, giving Groups across Tynemouth more opportunities to access adventurous activities without having to organise everything themselves.
Thanks to everyone who helped make today’s session possible, and to the Scouts and leaders who came along and made the first session such an enjoyable one.
