💐 An Emotional Goodbye to Poppies Florist 💐

This is one of the hardest posts I’ve ever had to write.

After 25 years of doing what I love, I’ve made the heartbreaking decision to close Poppies Florist and retire due to ill health. This isn’t how or when I ever imagined saying goodbye, but my health now has to come first. Poppies Florist will be permanently closing at the end of February.

This week also marks 25 years since Poppies first opened, a milestone I never imagined would coincide with saying goodbye. While it’s emotional, I’m incredibly proud to be celebrating such a special anniversary surrounded by the love and support from the community.

Poppies has been so much more than a flower shop to me. It’s been my passion, my safe place, and a huge part of my life. Every bouquet was made with care, every order was personal, and every customer meant something to me. I’ve been honoured to be part of so many special moments from weddings, celebrations, milestones, and also moments of loss where flowers spoke when words couldn’t.

I am so incredibly proud of what Poppies became. I poured my heart and soul into this little shop, even on the days when it was hard, because creating beauty for others always gave me joy.

As we approach our final weeks, I would be so grateful for your support in helping us make this Valentine’s Day extra special not just for the ones you love, but as our very last Valentine’s at Poppies, during our 25th year. It would mean the world to me to end this journey doing what I’ve always loved most: creating beautiful flowers for you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to every single person who supported me, trusted me, recommended me, popped in for a chat, or chose Poppies over the years. Your kindness, loyalty and love have meant more to me than you will ever know.

Although Poppies Florist will be closing, the memories, friendships, and love will stay with me forever 🌸

A Message from Tycroes Local Aid

As we approach the end of 2025, we wanted to share an honest update with our wonderful community. This year has been a challenging one, with lower attendance at our events and increasing costs involved in putting them together. Sadly, this has meant that we have made a financial loss.

Our mission has always been to bring people together, create enjoyable community moments, and raise funds to support the many good causes around us. Because of the difficulties we’ve faced this year, the amount we are able to donate has had to be significantly reduced. We have also taken care to maintain a responsible financial reserve so that we can continue to purchase the stock and supplies needed to deliver future events for everyone to enjoy.

Although this news is disappointing, we remain truly hopeful. Tycroes has always been a community that pulls together, and with your support we are confident that we can turn things around in 2026. By joining us at future events, you’ll not only be helping us keep these traditions alive, but also helping us continue supporting the causes that matter locally.

Thank you to each and every one of you for standing with Tycroes Local Aid. Your support means more than ever, and we look forward to welcoming you all at our annual Wine and Mince Pies Concert on December 18th.

Great to make the start of Christmas official in Tycroes. Lovely, if a slightly rainy, lights switch on with Christmas carols and mulled wine!
Thanks to Tycroes Local Aid volunteers, including Wyn and Carl, for getting the sound system set up. Thank you to Cyngor Cymuned Llanedi - Llanedi Community Council and Ashley the Community Development Officer for serving mulled wine and mince pies! Diolch to Helen Brennan for hosting and leading festivities and getting everyone to sing! Also thanks to Mrs Watts from Tycroes school for supporting the event and giving a reading as she does every year.
Finally a big thank you to Ammanford Silver Band for their continued support and getting the signing going by.
