The rugby family has lost one of the best, not just to play the game but also one of the best human beings. Scott always had the biggest of hearts and the biggest of smiles, whether you knew him for years or were meeting him for the first time.

This photo was taken minutes after Scotland had just missed out on a famous win . He had said he would come to say hello to our injured players and there he was. Gutted by the loss, but an absolute gentleman with every guest and congratulating England supporters on their win.

Scott was one of the warmest, most welcoming people you could meet who always made you feel part of the family and always had life in perspective. He will be greatly missed.

Thinking of Scott’s family, friends and everyone connected to at this difficult timešŸ’”

ā€œAs well as the practical things you might need as an injured player, for me it’s the mental support that’s been really important.Having cheerleaders in your corner can make a massive difference."

We catch up with IPF member Amy about why support from the IPF and its rugby community network has been game-changing for her.

Today is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day, recognising the lived experiences of over 105,000 people living with spinal cord injury across the UK.

As IPF Member and Ambassador Dani explains, ā€œEvery two hours in the UK, someone’s life changes forever due to a spinal cord injury. It could be through a car accident or everyday situations. It happens to all ages, in all walks of life. 65% of those people understandably go on to report serious mental health struggles. We need to ensure every person with a spinal cord injury receives the specialist care and support they deserve.ā€

Head to www.RFUIPF.org.uk/news to learn more about Dani’s work with the Spinal Injuries Association and the APPG for Spinal Cord Injury to build a National Strategy for Spinal Cord Injury.

Taking on new challenges, even ones that at first seem daunting, can have a hugely positive impact on our mental health.

That’s one of the aims of our IPF Engage Programmes, which brings members together to share experiences, build confidence and try new things in a supportive environment alongside family and friends.

If you’re an IPF member and would like to get involved, just contact our IPF welfare team.
