Travelling to appointments, staying away from home and managing the extra day-to-day expenses of caring for your child can put a real strain on family finances.

But something you might not know is that Tree of Hope families can use their raised funds to help towards eligible travel and daily living costs associated with their child’s medical needs, helping to ease some of the financial pressure along the way.

A***n loves the swings and slides at the park, and jumping and climbing brings him joy. He is also Autistic, with significant communication difficulties, as he isn’t able to use speech consistently to express his wants and needs, which can be distressing for him and his parents.

However speech and language therapy may be the key to develop his communication preferences.

Sadly, waiting lists for speech therapy on the NHS are incredibly and his parents are desperate to access early support during the crucial years of development, so his family aim to raise £5,000 for private therapy, to help him ‘find his voice’ in whichever way he chooses.

Homes in the UK aren’t always suitable for those with mobility difficulties. You might need to widen doorways, install ramps, create wet rooms, install a through floor lift, or complete other adaptations to make everyday life safer and more accessible but the costs can quickly add up.

While your local council may be able to help with some home adaptations, funding isn’t always available for everything you need.

That’s where Tree of Hope can help.

Whilst August is a time of rest and relaxation during the summer holidays, many of the children we support spent this time working hard at therapy, or making the most of the time off school to attend appointments.

They could only do this because of your support, whether that support was through sharing their stories, engaging with campaigns or donating to their fundraiser.

It shouldn’t be this way – healthcare is something that every child should be able to access, but for many, the level of additional support needed to thrive extends far beyond what is available through the NHS or public services.

Zephyr is a happy four-year-old boy who loves all things Rainbows, arts and crafts, and exploring outside, however, he lives with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy which affects the development of his body, movement and communication.

Words don’t always come easily for Zephyr, but like any four-year-old, he wants and needs to communicate with those around him, so he uses eyegaze technology, letting his eyes do the talking when his voice can’t.

Alongside this, Zephyr would hugely benefit from hydrotherapy to build his strength and movement control in a way in which land-based therapies cannot do. Swimming gives a greater ability of freedom of movement.

Unfortunately, these life-changing therapies are not council funded and so Zephyr’s family are raising £10,000 to give him the best possible opportunities in life that he deserves.
