Another fantastic wildlife pond has been registered with us!
This pond is buzzing with life. It has attracted tadpoles, damselflies, assorted larvae and a wide variety of aquatic invertebrates.

The pond also contains a selection of aquatic plants, providing shelter, breeding opportunities and helping to maintain a healthy pond ecosystem.
Even a small pond can become a thriving habitat for wildlife. 🌿

If you'd like to create your own mini wildlife pond, check out our recent video for a simple step-by-step guide 🐸

🌼 Day 76 of Growing a Pollinator Patch from Seed
Exciting day! Some of the cornflowers have finally fully opened and they're not all blue like I expected! 💙💜🌸

After 73 days of growing from seed, it's so rewarding to finally see the patch coming to life with a mix of different colours.
The borage also grown from seed has started flowering too and the star-shaped blooms are beautiful and they're already attracting lots of different pollinators 🐝🦋

What started as a handful of seeds is now becoming a pollinator patch full of nectar, colour and food for wildlife😊

The more spaces we create for wildlife, the better. If you're growing pollinator-friendly plants or leaving room for nature, consider registering your space with the Tunbridge Wells Community Nature Reserve today by visiting the link in the bio 😌

No Mow May is coming to an end 🌼

Whether you took part in no mow may or not, there’s still time to make a difference for pollinators and you can start at any time!

Even small changes like leaving a patch to grow wild, delaying mowing, or letting wildflowers bloom all create vital food and shelter for bees, butterflies, and other insects 🐝

If you haven’t already, please complete the survey at the end of this post for Kent’s Plan Bee. Every response helps shape how they support and protect pollinators across the county 🌿

Day 68 of growing a pollinator patch from seed🌱

Exciting day we finally have buds on the cornflowers!! 💙

They’re now shifting their energy from leafy growth into the flowering stage. Over the next few weeks, the buds will swell and develop before opening into those iconic blue blooms. The borage and sweet peas are thriving too!

These flowers will be a fantastic source of nectar for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators visiting the garden 🐝🦋

If you have a space for wildlife in your garden or balcony, however big or small please register with the community nature reserve so we can celebrate more wildlife-friendly habitats across Tunbridge Wells🌿

☀️ With temperatures rising across Tunbridge Wells this week, wildlife may struggle to find water, shade and safe shelter during the heatwave. Small actions in our gardens and community spaces can make a huge difference. 🌿🐝🦔

Here are a few simple ways to help wildlife cope in hot weather:
💧 Leave out shallow dishes of water for birds, bees and hedgehogs (putting pebbles/stones in helps smaller insects from getting stuck)
🌳 Keep some areas wild and shaded where wildlife can cool down
🐝 Avoid cutting back flowering plants that pollinators rely on
🦔 Check long grass and shady spots before mowing or strimming
🌱 Water plants in the early morning or evening to reduce evaporation
🪵 Leave logs, leaf piles and damp corners undisturbed for insects and amphibians

Even the smallest outdoor space can become a lifeline for wildlife during extreme weather. Every pot, pond, patch of shade and pollinator-friendly flower makes a difference 💚

🌿 Another two wonderful spaces have joined our growing Community Nature Reserve!

One newly registered garden is filled with pots and tubs, apple trees, vegetables and vibrant pollinator-friendly flowers including marigolds and sunflowers that all helping to support bees and other pollinators 🐝🌻🍅

We’ve also welcomed a beautiful woodland-style garden from C featuring winding paths, reclaimed natural materials, shaded planting and wildlife-friendly habitats designed to encourage biodiversity and work alongside nature. Theres also irises to support pollinators 🌳🍃

Don't forget to register your spaces in the link in the bio so we can see the spaces you create for nature and wildlife & keep growing 🌳

Day 52 of growing a pollinator patch from seed 🌱

The cornflowers are settling in really well now they’ve got space to spread out and grow properly even with the birds trying to snack on a few of them 😂

The borage is thriving and looking great, the marigolds are starting to open, and the sweet peas are climbing higher every day. Slowly but surely the patch is starting to come to life 🐝🦋🌸

May is a special month for UK bumblebees – the Big Eight are joined by some of our rare and less common species 💛

👑 This month, some of these rare and less common queens will emerge from hibernation. Already active queens will produce their first daughters – the workers 💼

🎱 For the Big Eight, some queens will produce their first workers while others will welcome new males 🚹

What bumblebees have you spotted recently? How many have you seen so far this year?
