Southborough & High Brooms Referendum

Your Vote Matters Tomorrow!

Tomorrow, residents have the opportunity to vote on the Southborough and High Brooms Neighbourhood Development Plan.

This isn’t just another planning document. A YES vote means our locally-created plan becomes part of the statutory planning framework used by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council when making decisions on planning applications in our area.

What does that mean in practice?

👉More local influence over future development

👉Stronger protection for the character and heritage of Southborough and High Brooms

👉Greater ability to shape how new housing and development fits into our community

👉Increased weight given to local priorities when planning decisions are made

👉Support for improvements to walking and cycling routes, access to green spaces, and protection of important local views and landscapes

As the plan’s supporters have highlighted, adoption would give our community a stronger voice in ensuring planning decisions reflect the vision and priorities developed by local residents over many years of consultation and volunteer effort.

Whatever your view, this is a rare opportunity for local people to directly influence the future of our town.

🗳️ Referendum Day: Thursday 18 June 2026

📍 Vote at your usual polling station.

Please take a few minutes to have your say and help shape the future of Southborough and High Brooms.🫶

Step inside one of Tonbridge’s oldest and most historic buildings. ⛪️

Built shortly after Tonbridge Castle in the 11th century, the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul stands on a site once used for Saxon worship. Until well into the 19th century, Tonbridge was one of England’s largest parishes, with Southborough forming the “south borough” of the town.

Sir Paul Britton has kindly agreed to give a talk and guided tour of the church on Tuesday 7th July at 7.00pm.

Numbers are limited to 30, so booking is essential.

A huge thank you to Anne Goldstein for her fascinating and deeply moving presentation, ‘A Beacon of Hope’, on Wednesday evening.

It was incredible to see such a strong turnout- at one point we even ran out of chairs! A real testament to the interest in this important and powerful history.

We were privileged to hear about the kindness and generosity shown by the people of Tunbridge Wells in welcoming both Basque refugees and Kindertransport children. The stories shared were not only moving, but also uplifting, highlighting the deep connections formed, with many of these relationships growing into lifelong friendships.

An inspiring evening and a reminder of the lasting impact of compassion and community. Thank you Anne and to all who came along.
