About Ralph Usherwood:
Usherwood lived at 24 Pennington Road from c. 1955 until his death in 2000. He is best remembered as the Art Editor of the Radio Times when the magazine was at the peak of its popularity. He commissioned illustrations by well-known artists to entice readers to tune into radio and television programmes which were on the air that week.
Usherwood was from a young age a competent artist himself and created atmospheric pictures using his distinctive, effortless style.
For the gift card, we have chosen his depiction of the view from his house, overlooking Pennington Park towards St Peter’s Church, thought to have been executed in the 1970s.
