Your Shore Network

Your Shore Network This will encourage marine nature recovery and help protect Cornwall’s unique coast and seas.

The Your Shore Network is a collation of local marine groups across the county, working with volunteers to encourage marine nature recovery and help protect Cornwall's unique coasts and seas. Thanks to support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery players, Cornwall Wildlife Trust will be enhancing the Your Shore Network of local marine groups across the county, with an initi

al focus on Mounts Bay. Cornwall Wildlife Trust will work with people of all ages and across all areas of the local community through a programme of environmental engagement and action. Over the next few years, we will:

• Improve engagement to Increase awareness of the challenge’s marine wildlife and habitats face,

• Educate and upskill people of all ages, with a particular focus on 11–24 year -olds, using our unique and inspiring coastal environment to connect people to the natural world,.

• Work with all members of the community to find solutions and take actions to tackle the ecological and climate crisis, through the development of Cornwall’s Charter of the Sea. We will do this by coordinating a programme of public events, practical training, school outreach, volunteering opportunities and marine conservation activities. The work will give people a blue voice for our ocean to ensure conservation action is enhanced on a local level.

KERNOW’S CRYPTIC KELP KINGDOM

Join for a Seasearch special all about Kelp, from Cat Wilding of the

Kelp forests create living space for a multitude of life. They oxygenate the water, absorb nutrients and reduce wave energy, helping to reduce coastal erosion.

But this invaluable habitat is under threat: from armies of urchins to fishing damage and climate change. Find out more about what is being done to restore them.

Cat will help you to discover how to distinguish our local kelp species and discuss current research aiming to restore kelp forests, which is the focus of her PhD project.
