We are always on the lookout for new members and were pleased to welcome our first lady member during 2012. Truro is a busy Club and It is very much appreciated that not everybody can be involved, all the time, for all sorts of personal and business reasons. The time and commitment given is determined by individual members.

Yesterday the 30th of July Truro Lions Liz and Tony Randall delivered another carload of items recently donated , to the Cornwall and Devon Sending Love to Ukraine hub at Callington

Truro Lions Liz and Tony Randall were on duty Saturday the 25th of July at Tresemple Farmyard Market receiving donations for Cornwall and Devon Sending Love to Ukraine

There was only had one donation but it was from a very kind lady called Michelle who has donated before and who brought along a child’s car seat, lots of lovely children’s clothes and accessories, adult and children’s hats and several other items. What she donated plus other items previously received will make up another carload to be delivered to the reception centre in Callington

We are delighted to share that BBC Spotlight News (West Country) will be broadcasting a segment today, 21st July, showcasing the AI-generated videos created by students as part of the future outreach strand of our first prize-winning Beneath the Battlefields local history research project.

The project, which explored the remarkable stories of Cornish miners who became tunnellers and explosives engineers during the First World War, has combined historical research with innovative technology to bring these forgotten voices to life for new audiences.

A huge congratulations to our student researchers and project team for their outstanding work and for helping to ensure that local history continues to inspire future generations.

On Wednesday 15th of July St. Austell Lions Club joined forces with Truro Lions in an important service Project to help a Ukrainian Family who recently had to vacate a furnished Flat in St Austell to move into an unfurnished one in Truro

An approach was made to "Hidden Help " a local Charity who receive donations of Furniture and other household items from members of the public, and who assist with referrals to help families in need. The founder of Hidden Help, Judy Backus, was incredibly helpful choosing suitable items.

A list of necessary items was identified and as you might expect some were rather bulky. Fortunately, Lion Eric Scorse was able to acquire a suitable vehicle to deliver the items to the flat in Truro driven by his partner Di.

This was excellent work between both Lions Clubs and those who volunteered their time were Lion Eric Scorse his partner Di from St. Austell and from Truro Lion President Geoff Kaye with Lions Peter Read, Mick Pawlak and Simon Clitherow. Judy Backus is also featured in the photo

On Friday the 26th of June we were present at Tesco Truro for a collection , supporting Cornwall and Devon sending love to Ukraine . We raised a total of £192 which was another great result thanks to the generosity of the public.

We have now purchased another Medical Kit from the proceeds to be sent to the Ukraine, via Cornwall and Devon sending love to Ukraine

Lions on duty were Lion President Julian Collinson together with Lions Alan Downie, Bill Rudd, Sue Gibbs, Cornelius Hutchinson and Richard Lewis

President Geoff Kaye attended the Penair School annual prize giving on Thursday July the 2nd with his wife Norma
Geoff presented the Truro Lions Cup for Services to the Community to Teacher Mrs. Turuelo and the Beneath the Battlefields Group. The study focussed on the history of Cornish Miners serving in WW1.

The Beneath the Battlefields team have shown incredible dedication and resilience as part of this research project, developing significant skills and confidence throughout the last year. Over countless hours they have worked with local families and heritage professionals, consistently showing their interpersonal skills and being the best possible community ambassadors for Penair School.

The annual Children’s Hospice SW Ride for Precious Lives started at Charlton Farm near Bristol on Friday morning and the 100 or so riders were confronted not only with a daunting array of hills through the 210 mile route, but also record high temperatures.

Incredibly the riders arrived at Little Harbour on Sunday afternoon in great spirits, and a contingent of Truro Lions were there in an official capacity to greet them.

Lions Alan Downie and Julian Collinson sampled the high temperatures themselves as they marshalled vehicles entering the spectator car park, while Lions Club supporters Lesley Downie, Celia Hillman, and Dick Butters manned the refreshments in the event village.

The event was another huge success for CHSW with £280,000 raised and more money still coming in. It costs over £4.3m per year to finance care at Little Harbour alone so every penny is so valuable to the charity.

Truro Lions are proud to support CHSW at their major events.

Brenda and I had a lovely welcome from Terri, Sandra, and a lovely new volunteer lady who just started today at the Send Love to Ukraine hub in Callington. They were very pleased to receive all we had, delighted with the large amount of cat and dog food. I also said that Truro Lions were happy to continue with the monthly collections as we are delighted as to how well it’s gone so far.
