Did you know?
Research in the NHS has helped improve survival rates, reduce hospital stays and shape national treatment guidelines. Clinical trials don’t just test treatments – they transform care.

Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust contributed to a major UK study showing that less intensive radiotherapy is safe and effective for women aged 50+ with low‑risk early breast cancer after breast‑conserving surgery. Led by Dr Duncan Wheatley, the study of over 2,000 women (including 136 from RCHT) found that reduced-dose and partial-breast radiotherapy were as effective as standard treatment, with similarly low recurrence rates (2–3%) and comparable or fewer side effects. The results support these approaches as standard-of-care options for suitable patients, offering gentler treatment and improved quality of life.

We were thrilled to Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity and Circular&Co. for their thoughtful contribution to our Research Charity Ball 2026 gift bags ☕✨

Thanks to their generosity, our guests received beautifully designed reusable cups, created from unexpected materials such as fabric waste, old trainers, and recycled paper cups—turning waste into something truly practical and stylish 🌍

Circular&Co.’s cups are not only 100% leakproof and built to last, but also play an important role in helping reduce single-use plastics—making them the perfect sustainable addition to this year’s event 💛

We’re proud to have partnered on something that reflects both innovation and environmental responsibility, and we hope our guests continue to enjoy using them long after the event.

Thank you for helping us make a positive impact and for supporting our charity ✨

Today we begin our week long celebrations of International Clinical Trials Day. Held each year on 20 May, the day marks the anniversary of James Lind’s 1747 study into scurvy, often considered the first clinical trial. It celebrates the role of clinical research in improving patient care and advancing modern medicine, while recognising the contributions of patients, researchers and healthcare staff working together to help us deliver better care for patients across the NHS.

We’re incredibly grateful to Furniss for their generous donation of delicious biscuits for our Research Charity Ball 2026 gift bags 🍪✨

With a heritage dating back to 1886, when John Cooper Furniss first opened his teashop in Truro, Furniss has been crafting quality biscuits using perfected recipes for generations. Today, they are proud to be the only company in the world licensed to make the Original Cornish Fairing - a true taste of Cornwall.

Their biscuits were a wonderful addition to our gift bags, offering guests a classic, much-loved treat and a reminder of Cornwall’s rich baking tradition 💛

We are especially thankful for Furniss’ continued support of our charity over the years. Their ongoing generosity means so much to us and plays a valuable role in helping us deliver events like this.

Thank you, Furniss, for standing with us and helping make this year’s event such a success ✨
