❤️ A little look behind the scenes at The Larder… ❤️
We post a lot about what we need, what we've been donated and the lovely things happening at the Larder, but we don't often talk about the people quietly making it all happen.
And what a year our volunteers have had! 🥰
Behind those Wednesday doors are people collecting donations, sorting food, filling shelves, answering messages, making phone calls, finding furniture and appliances, arranging collections and deliveries, moving washing machines, fridges and freezers, helping families set up homes and somehow finding the random things people desperately need!
We've helped with school essentials, furniture, beds, cookers, washing machines, fridges, freezers and countless other household bits and pieces — as well as, of course, making sure there's food on the shelves every Wednesday.
But the Larder has become about more than what's on the shelves.
We've held karaoke nights which, yes, raise much-needed funds, but they're about so much more than that. They're nights full of questionable singing 😂, laughter, silliness and people coming together. For a few hours, it's simply our community having fun together, and we think that's every bit as important. 🎤❤️
We've held The Big Lunch, bringing people together over food and friendship, continued fundraising, started planning this year's Christmas scheme and are preparing for another Larder Auction after the success of the last one. Last Christmas alone, our scheme supported 36 families across the Roseland. 🎄❤️
And somewhere amongst all of that, our little community Larder even ended up meeting the King! 👑
But some of the most important things our volunteers do will never make it onto Facebook.
It's the conversations. The discreet messages. The person who needs a little extra help that week. The bag quietly put together for someone. The donated item driven to a family. The hours spent finding something somebody needs. And making sure that anyone walking through our doors is met with kindness, dignity and absolutely no judgement.
None of this happens by magic.
It happens because a wonderful group of volunteers give their time, their energy (and quite often their cars and spare rooms 😂) to look after people in our community.
So this post isn't an appeal for anything.
It's just a little peek behind the curtain and a chance to say thank you to our brilliant Larder volunteers.
For the food, the furniture, the fundraising, the singing, the laughter, the friendship and all those little acts of kindness nobody else ever sees.
