TRAINING: Supporting Adults Harmed by Sexual Abuse & Relationship Trauma (Training and CPD for Qualified Counsellors)

This bespoke training programme is delivered across four full-day, face-to-face sessions and includes six hours of self-directed study, providing a total of 30 of hours of CPCAB-endorsed CPD.

Delivered by experienced CLEAR therapists and trainers, this course is designed to deepen understanding and strengthen skills when working with adults affected by sexual abuse and relationship trauma.

Dates: 20th, 27th January, 3rd, 10th February 2027 - all four dates will need to be attended, 10am-4pm.

Course Aims:
Survivors of sexual abuse often present with complex trauma responses. This course aims to help qualified therapists:

- Deepen understanding of the immediate and long-term impact of sexual abuse, sexual assault, and r**e.
- Understand the impact of relational trauma on the brain and nervous system
- Recognise the effects of trauma on individuals, including common responses such as flashbacks, dissociation, and shame, as well as client coping strategies.
- Explore common themes that arise in therapy and within the ther**eutic relationship.
- Learn practical trauma stabilisation skills and techniques, building further confidence in creating a safe, trauma-informed practice.
- Develop understanding of safety planning and risk management, pre-trial therapy, notes and record keeping
- Consider counsellor self-care, including the prevention of burnout and vicarious trauma

CLEAR’s CPCAB Level 5 Post Qualifying Diploma in Working Ther**eutically with Children & Young People is designed specifically for qualified counsellors who want to develop the skills, confidence and specialist knowledge required to work ther**eutically with children from age 5 upwards.

As Cornwall’s only BACP accredited therapy and counselling service, CLEAR offers a uniquely safe, supportive and practice grounded learning environment where counsellors can deepen their expertise while working alongside experienced CYP practitioners.

In addition, the training offers invaluable guidance on note-taking and record-keeping, as well as the protocols and considerations surrounding pre-trial therapy.
