The Beaver Scouts finished off their Ugly Sticks, using a power drill.
This activity was inspired during a visit to Newfoundland (see flag), but we learned that they are also used locally (see the 'professional' one in the photo).
Thanks to Andy for his help with drilling!

The Beaver Scouts are currently building their own Ugly Sticks (a Newfoundland musical instrument fashioned out of household items). The first session saw them hammering holes into bottle tops (we have brave volunteers holding the nail!).
A big Thank you to Tregony sports Club, The Kings Arms pub, and Maz for collecting bottle tops!

This week the Beaver Scouts helped REACT to care for trees around the sports field. Talk about child labour - they worked so hard!

We're looking forward to seeing you all this Saturday, Tregony Village Hall, 1-3pm for more repairs, stitches, tweaks and gluing-bits-together! We'll also be cleaning small items like jewellery and eye-glasses; and can help out with phone/laptop setup issues, online access to services, and more! We're always looking for volunteers, too, so if you fancy helping us out in any way, let us know.

We made knot boards. For practicing knots.
First the wood needed sanding, then holes had to be drilled, screws tightened, boards decorated, and finally knots applied.
A massive Thank You to Jon for the donation of the wood, Iain for cutting it to size and chamfering the edges, and to Mike and Iain for helping on the day.

Cubs and scouts have been having a blast the last two weeks!
At calendra farm we measured water quality, built shelters, made fires and gorged on smores!
This week we went to Philleigh Way Woods and discovered a bit about how trees are maintained as saplings. They were also super pleased to find moths, butterflies, things that moved to fast through the grass 🤷‍♂️🐁🐍??? And ants nests in the tree protectors as well as a dragon fly!!! Awesome evenings made possible by our lovely volunteers including dofe helpers! Thank you!
