Over £23K Raised as Falmouth Goes Pink for Breast Cancer Support

More than 1,000 people turned the streets of Falmouth pink for this year's Pink Wig Mermaid March, raising an incredible £23K for the Mermaid Centre at Royal Cornwall Hospital.

Supporters of all ages came together for an unforgettable evening of fundraising, fun and community spirit, walking in support of everyone affected by breast cancer. This year was extra special as we welcomed men to take part for the first time, recognising the wider impact breast cancer has on families, friends and loved ones.

The money raised will help enhance care, facilities and support for breast cancer patients and their families across Cornwall.

A huge thank you to everyone who walked, donated, sponsored and cheered from the side-lines. Together, you're making a real difference.

The sea of pink will return in 2027! Early-bird tickets are available now, so secure your place at this year's prices.

Lorna Burrows is putting the fun into fundraising with a Zumba Dance Party in support of this year's Pedal for Patients challenge to raise money for The Sunrise Centre, Cornwall's dedicated cancer centre.

After her father-in-law was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018, Lorna saw first-hand the vital support provided by The Sunrise Centre. Having access to treatment closer to home made a huge difference during a difficult time, reducing the need for long journeys while undergoing care.

To support the centre that has meant so much to her family, Lorna is taking part in this year's Pedal for Patients, cycling around 200 miles in three days across Cornwall. Alongside hosting fundraising stands at Royal Cornwall Hospital, she's now inviting the community to join her for an afternoon of dancing and fun on Saturday .

Saturday 22 August
Mills Hall, Carharrack, TR16 5QW
2.30pm
3.30pm
4.30pm
Suggested donation: £6.50 per session, refreshments available.

All are welcome, so come along, get moving, have fun and help make a difference for local cancer patients and their families. Every donation will support the incredible work of The Sunrise Centre.

You can also support Lorna through her Just Giving page. Link in comments.

Cornwall schools called on to support young cancer patients with Non-School Uniform Day

Schools across Cornwall are being encouraged to take part in Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity’s Non-School Uniform Day on Friday 25 September 2026, raising vital funds for the charity’s Children’s Cancer Unit Fund during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Pupils can come to school in their own clothes in exchange for a small donation, or schools can choose to host a fun sponsored activity or event to support the cause.

The annual fundraiser has become a popular fixture in schools across Cornwall, with last year’s event raising more than £15,000 to support children and young people receiving cancer treatment and care through Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.

Funds raised help provide additional support, experiences and resources that go beyond clinical treatment, making a real difference to children and their families during some of the most challenging times of their lives.

Deborah Charles, Play Specialist at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Your support truly makes a difference beyond treatment, helping create comfort, smiles and lasting memories for children and families facing cancer. Please support this year’s fundraiser to help us continue this vital work.”

Every pound raised helps ensure children receiving cancer care, and their families, can access additional support and opportunities that bring comfort, enjoyment and positive experiences throughout their treatment journey.

Recent purchases and support funded by the Children’s Cancer Unit Fund include Xboxes, TVs, forest day experiences, Eden Project ice skating trips for families, parent and carer refreshment vouchers, VR headsets, music therapy, sibling support, bereavement services, essential family items, and toys and activities that help make a child’s cancer journey a little easier.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity is now calling on schools across Cornwall to sign up and take part. Please register, link in comments.
