Our next photography trip is on Monday 15th of June. We are meeting up at Polly joke car park at 7:15pm and then photographing the beautiful poppy area there. New photographers are always welcome, there is no cost.

We revisited Truro on Monday 8th of June to conduct photography. The club tried some "Task" driven challenges, which were as follows@
Tasks: Shoot Black and White, shoot a "Dutch Tilt", photograph something that does not typically look like anything in Truro.

The club members have been struggling with the weather this off-season.

On Bank Holiday Monday, many met at St Piran’s Coffee Shop in Bissoe with the intention of capturing images of dragonflies at the nearby nature reserve.

However, by the time the coffee was drunk and the chat was done, the sun was well up, making the local fauna too flighty to photograph. Perhaps an earlier start next time!

The following Monday, a trip to Mevagissey was planned, but with storm clouds on the horizon bringing heavy rain and strong winds, discretion was the better part of valour and the outing was deferred.

Here’s hoping that our next gathering will actually include the taking of some images…

Last Monday’s off-season meet took place on the very wet streets of Truro.

Not in the least perturbed by the driving rain, howling gale and below-seasonal temperatures, we soon withdrew to the comfort of “The Old Ale House”.

A very convivial time was had by all, with discussions ranging far beyond cameras and equipment to chickens, dogs, boats, holidays, planned trips and adventures, together with many other matters of interest.

It was good simply to have time to socialise and enjoy each other’s company.

Last evening, a group of hardy photographers gathered on the beach at Holywell Bay as part of our off-site summer programme.

As always, there were countless interpretations to be found in the opportunities before us, and hopefully a few more members will share some of their own images from the evening.

Some arrived with new cameras, while others brought along their mobile phones, but these outings are always a great opportunity to experiment, exchange techniques and share advice.

There was plenty of chat and chatter (helped along by the chilly sea breeze!) and a thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all.

Last evening’s well-attended AGM brought this season’s regular meetings at Carnon Downs Village Hall to a close.

Reports from the Chair, Treasurer, Programme Secretary and Competitions Secretary all reflected on another successful and enjoyable year for the club. There were also plenty of thoughtful suggestions from the floor on how we might further raise the club’s profile, while continuing to emphasise the supportive and encouraging atmosphere that members value so highly.

At the break, we were able to enjoy the now much-anticipated homemade baking competition — a highlight that has firmly established itself as part of club life!

The evening concluded with the presentation of certificates and trophies to the many members who achieved success not only within the club, but also in regional and national competitions. This year also saw the inaugural Martin Howse Award, presented for the best black and white print, alongside a mounted copy of a print from this much-missed member.

Truro Camera Club enjoyed an interesting Zoom presentation from David Sadler last evening.
He became hooked on photography after joining Dundee Photographic Society in 2010. The club’s supportive atmosphere and friendly competition (very much like our own) soon fuelled his desire to enter both internal competitions and external exhibitions (salons), and he has been chasing distinctions and awards ever since.
David tends to steer clear of commonly photographed subjects, instead favouring more unusual, quirky themes and offbeat situations—often featuring wacky selfies and bold, creative processing.
In his youth he was immersed in punk music and skateboarding, and that skate-punk ethos still clearly influences his work today.

A great way to round off another year of an excellent programme, which concludes with our AGM next Monday.

From the 31st January to 16th February, Truro Camera Club will be showcasing their member's stunning photographs in an exhibition at Truro Cathedral.

Cornwall’s diverse landscapes, ranging from dramatic seascapes to breathtaking wildlife, offer endless opportunities for photographers- this exhibition is a great opportunity to have a look at the local talent in Our Great Little City.
