Cornwall Mining & Geo-Resources Alliance The Cornwall Mining and Georesources Alliance: Local Knowledge – Global Expertise

Cornwall has a long and successful history of mining, quarrying and mineral processing. Since the 1700s this part of the UK has been the focus of geological studies and engineering advancements in metalliferous mining. Cornwall has also produced China Clay, for worldwide export, for over 200 years. In 1888 the world-renowned Camborne School of Mines (now part of the University of Exeter) was estab

lished, followed by the Cornish Chamber of Mines & Minerals in 1917, with both organisations enhancing and supporting the development of Cornish mining expertise. Today the region is home to a unique concentration of innovative businesses, organisations and experienced professionals providing services to all aspects of mining and related industries in the UK and around the world. The Cornwall Mining and Georesources Alliance connects these experts and provides the right people for the job – local knowledge, global expertise.

Last Friday we had the pleasure of attending the launch of MintMech's new facility in Penryn – another excellent example of how SPF funding has supported Cornwall build the industrial capabilities needed for the future.
As a CMGA member, MintMech demonstrates how engineering expertise developed in one sector can successfully scale into others, supporting mining, critical minerals, offshore wind and other demanding industries.
Their work with Gravity Mining is a great example of the value of collaboration within our membership. By redesigning Multi Gravity Separator (MGS) machines for CNC manufacturing, MintMech helped increase production from one machine per fortnight to two per week. It is exactly the kind of supply chain development and member-to-member collaboration that will be critical as Cornwall's geo-resources sector continues to grow.
Over the next decade, we need more businesses across the Falmouth-Penryn area and others across Cornwall to recognise the opportunities to apply their skills, innovate and scale. MintMech is showing how it can be done.

Another great networking event this morning. Thank you to everyone who attended the CMGA Business Breakfast: Practical Downhole Geophysics. A really good turnout, with plenty of valuable discussions following the presentation from Robertson Geo - one of the CMGA patrons.
The team provided an excellent overview of their downhole geophysical borehole logging services, including televiewers, callipers, NMR porosity, resistivity and groundwater applications. It was great to hear their expertise is already supporting some Cornish mining projects, while the wider applications extend across geothermal, offshore renewables and other sectors. If you are interested in learning more, get in touch.
Huge thanks to Truro and Penwith College STEM &Health Centre in Bodmin for providing a venue for this business breakfast.
