The Old Truronian network was officially established in August 1895, when it was known originally as the Old Boys’ Association. Times have changed and for many years now alumni have been made up of amazing ladies and gentlemen who form our Old Truronians and share the mutual bond that is Truro School. Steeped in 140 years of history, Truro School is Cornwall’s leading independent school for girls and boys aged 3-18. The School is situated over two campuses, the Senior School set within 40 acres of sports fields and open spaces overlooking Truro and its iconic Cathedral, and a vibrant Prep School. We hope to help former pupils keep in contact as well as providing networking opportunities and enjoyable reunions. Join your friends and former teachers at the ever popular and memorable Annual Reunion Dinner every autumn. The Development team also produces the Truronian - the official Old Truronian magazine, sent digitally at the end of each school term containing a round-up of the terms events, OT features, Archive Attic, plus much more. The School opened on its present Trennick Lane site in 1882, having quickly outgrown its original premises in River Street and Strangways Terrace. School House was formed in 1921 and was named for Truro College (the name of the school changed to Truro School in 1931). It was also to acknowledge the school’s ethos and its aim to be a leading light in education in Truro and Cornwall.

We are trying to collate a record of house captains over the years. There is still a gap between 2018-19 and 2024-25 for School House, and for 2007-08, if anyone can help fill in the blanks please get in touch.

Old Truronians are invited to join Truro School in our Act of Remembrance on Wednesday 11 November from 10.45am – 11.45pm. We will gather outdoors in front of the School, with the Cathedral Choristers.

After the service, Old Truronians in attendance are invited to join us in the Chapel, where the School War Memorials are, for hot refreshments (tea, coffee and biscuits) hosted by the School Chaplain.

Numbers are limited so please do RSVP early to attend.

On this day in 1921 Sir George Smith of Treliske passed away, at the age of 76. He was involved with the School since its early days as a director and when the board of governors was established in 1904 he became its first chairman. He was one of seven members of his family involved with governing of the school. When the School’s house system was renamed later in 1921, his contribution, and that of his family’s long-standing connection to the school, was marked in the naming of Smith House.

On this day in 1921 Mrs Emma Opie, the long serving school matron, passed away. She had recently retired from the post, in August 1921, after 27 years, and was affectionally known as ‘Mother Opie’. The Opie Shield was given in her memory by her family and is still used today for the School’s inter-house competition.

We are trying to collate a record of house captains over the years. There is a gap between 2015 and 2025 for Vinter, Smith and School, if anyone can help fill in the blanks please get in touch.

Also on this day, in 1986 the Rule Library was opened, with a bequest from OT W.C. Rule (TS 1913-18) which turned the former dormitory into an up-to-date library and resource centre.

Classes of 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977 and 1978 - don't miss your chance to celebrate a special 50-year milestone together to be held at Truro School on Friday 16 October!

This reunion has been arranged in partnership with Steve Floyd and Steve Harrison from the Class of 76. OTs are welcome for a reception and celebratory dinner in the school dining room, complete with a fun, 1970s-themed menu.

In addition to the dinner, there will be two informal gatherings - one on Thursday 15 October and another on Saturday 17 October - allowing plenty of opportunity for guests to attend all, or some, of the reunions.

Tickets are ÂŁ55 per person, and partners, siblings, family and friends are all very welcome to join the celebrations.

Grace Morgan-Lundie CO22 returned to Truro School recently to talk to students in the Geology Department about her journey since leaving. She studied Chemistry, Geology and 3D Design at A-Level, before applying to university to study Geology. Receiving successful offers from every university she applied to, she ultimately chose Cardiff University, where she studied for a BSc in Geology.

After Cardiff, Grace moved home to study an MSc in Exploration and Mining Geology at the Camborne School of Mines. Again, she spoke about the programme, the work experience it offered, and the type of fieldwork involved and the great culture between women in mining. Interestingly, Grace also spoke about the benefits of completing a master’s and of studying Geology more broadly – highlighting how the subject can open doors for students not necessarily aiming for a direct career in geology, but perhaps considering related fields such as economics. She also highlighted the excellent scholarships on offer at Camborne School of Mines, and how they helped her secure valuable work experience.

Today, Grace works for Cornwall Resources, which is a mineral exploration and development company with the objective of identifying and developing the critical mineral prospects of Cornwall and the Southwest.

Notable Old Truronian Ros Atkins CO93 has launched a new podcast called The Value Crisis. Ros believes technology is dramatically shifting what we value in the worlds of friendship, culture, finance and work – and in the first episode, he sets out to test whether that shift amounts to a crisis, or something else. He examines how technology has made our relationships more frictionless, and perhaps thinner as a result; whether an algorithm can tell the difference between what’s good and what merely holds our attention; how, in the world of finance, price has come loose from worth altogether; and how, in the world of work, some of us are left wondering how long our own value will hold.

Ros also returned to Cornwall recently, DJing alongside Groove Armada’s Andy Cato for a special “History of House” set at The Cornish Bank in Falmouth.
