18th Truro Sea Scouts, Cubs and Beavers

The 18th Truro Beavers had a fantastic evening at Tomperrow, our district campsite!
We managed to dodge the rain showers, sent two Beavers up the river to join the Cubs, explored the site and collected 40 sticks as part of our 40th Birthday Challenge.
Of course, we finished the evening by toasting 40 marshmallows!
Although a few Beavers were a little disappointed to discover that it was a colony challenge rather than a personal challenge!

World Space Week at 18th Truro Beavers!

The 18th Truro Beavers celebrated World Space Week by adapting one of the 40th birthday challenges.

Working together as a lodge, they designed their very own new constellations using 40 stars. They then gave their creations some fantastic names: Dino Stars, Ammonite and Mountain!

A brilliant activity showcasing creativity, teamwork and plenty of imagination! 🌟

18th Truro Scouts had a fantastic final evening at Tresemple Farm!

Our last evening this week at Tresemple Farm was another brilliant one, with the Scouts getting stuck in and learning more about organic and regenerative farming.

They found out how the fields are rotated and how this helps maintain the soil at peak health. They also got to see how a fillet steak is prepared, from the carcass through to the finished cut, and learned about the other cuts found in that part of the carcass.

The Scouts then headed into the packing area, where they helped vacuum-pack the meat before having a go at guessing the weight of each fillet. They then weighed and labelled them ready for sale.

And, of course, no visit would be complete without some food — we finished the evening with burgers cooked on the BBQ!

But there was one more very special moment… we invested one of our leaders!

A big official welcome to the 18th Truro team to Sarge (aka Tom) — who just happens to be one of the butchery team at Tresemple Farm too! We’re delighted to have you officially invested and part of the team.

A huge thank you to Rhys, Ben, Tom and everyone at Tresemple Farm for another fantastic evening and for sharing so much of their knowledge and skills with us. It’s been a brilliant week of learning, exploring and getting stuck in!

18th Truro Cubs had a fantastic evening at Tresemple Farm!
It was the Cubs’ turn this evening, and they had a brilliant time learning all about organic and regenerative farming with Rhys. They watched how sausages were made — and even got to taste them! They also headed out into the meadow to hunt for different grasses and clovers, putting their observation skills to the test.

18th Truro Beavers had a fantastic evening at Tresemple Farm!

The Beavers spent a lovely evening with Rhys learning all about organic and regenerative farming. They met some cows, helped hunt for pumpkins, had a peek inside the butcher’s freezer to learn about the different cuts of beef, and even discovered a very special throne for chickens!

18th Truro Sea Scouts supported the half Marathon in Truro, one of our Leaders did an amazing job as he ran the race and we were proud to see him at the finish line.

The 18th Truro Sea Scouts helped out at the annual Truro half Marathon!

One of our awesome Leaders even ran the whole thing, and we were super chuffed to see him cross the finish line. We helped out by setting up the drinks station, handing out medals to the runners, and even doing the not-so-glamorous-but-super-important job of washing and collecting the racer bands to keep tabs on everyone who finished. The Scouts were seriously brilliant, working their socks off and keeping those smiles and good vibes going right till the very end!

A special skywatching treat for our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts!
We hope all our young people enjoy watching the partial eclipse on Wednesday. It’s a fantastic opportunity to look up and see something amazing!

Please remember to stay safe: never look directly at the Sun without proper solar eclipse viewing glasses. Alternatively, you can safely watch the eclipse by making a pinhole camera/projector.

Enjoy the eclipse, and happy skywatching!

On Wednesday, the UK will be treated to a partial solar eclipse. ☀️ 🌑 🌍

Starting at 6:13 pm UK time, maximum eclipse will occur at 7.10pm, with around 90-96% of the Sun being obscured. The eclipse will end at 8:03pm.

Be sure to use speciality glasses to safely watch it. 🕶️
