The One Health Foundation is an international organisation run by veterinary surgeons with the primary purpose of advancing veterinary and One Health education. Through our teaching programmes we aim to improve both animal and human health, animal welfare and to provide a greater understanding of the links between animal, human and environmental health, particularly in developing countries. Our ed
ucational programmes are tailored according to local needs and always planned and conducted together with a local operator, university, NGO or similar organisation. One of the greatest challenges in developing countries regarding undergraduate veterinary education is the lack of practical training during undergraduate studies. This leads to under development of the profession locally as well as loss of many newly trained graduates to foreign countries as they seek further education and employment oversees, thus draining the local skillset. The One Health Foundation will provide both online distance learning and on-site practical training courses for undergraduate and practicing veterinarians, medical professionals and other groups working in animal and human health that will focus on clinical and practical skills as well as One Health and Conservation related topics. After an initial pilot veterinary programme in association with universities in Nepal, our work will be expanded to include the medical and other human and animal health- related fields and other animal welfare organisations to increase understanding of a One Health approach and create collaboration between professions. This model can then be replicated in other Asian, African and Western countries, according to their specific needs. We believe that education is key to the improvement of animal and human health, animal welfare, conservation and environmental concerns. The provision of our online teaching materials and on site practical courses will advance the education of local professionals which will empower them with skills to work towards these aims. The One Health Foundation will remain available to organisations on a consultancy basis thereafter to support their ongoing work. SC048498
