Oriontree Alpacas & Poultry Based in Notts, we run as not for profit. We are a local couple, with our small herd of alpacas, poultry and sheep. We often have birds for sale.

ate on large Vorwerks, large Araucanas in various colours, and bantam silver Barnevelders. Our birds are consistently placed in the biggest shows in the country (National, Federation, Scottish National). We also breed rare colours of Muscovies. Our livestock guardian dogs are Carpatins (Romanian Carpathian Shepherds). These are fantastic dogs, very instinctive, very intuitive, and extremely effective at keeping predators away. This breed is used in Romania for guarding flocks of sheep against bears and wolves. They live in complete freedom, following their flock and shepherd. Over here, they need fences, but are just as efficient. LGDs have been around for thousands of years and are used across the globe protecting all manner of livestock against all manner of predators. Horned sheep seem to be less desirable, but we love them. The sheep don't use the horns against each other nor people. When sheep headbutt, they use their heads. Even polled sheep (non-horned) can headbutt, however, that is all down to personality! It's a bit like people; some are more likely to butt heads than others 😆

This is Pez.

It is her birthday today.

Pez is 11 years old, retired, overweight, and possibly arthritic (judging by her ambling gait). As a lady of leisure, she is in no rush to do anything. At. All. Food? "Yeah, maybe I'll pop over later." Head scratch? "No, thanks. You might spot my excellent condition and take me out of retirement." She thinks the world of herself, and, to be fair, so do we. She is the undisputed queen and will keep youths in line.
Pez knows all about shearing. She's been through it many times. However, I can't quite read her expression here. I'm torn between "how dare you let a peasant man-handle me in such a fashion!" And "I'm all done. Can I go out now?"
Either way, she's just 🥰 Happy birthday, sweetie.

Also our fantastic copper blue Marans head huncho. We are swapping him for fresh blood this year, but have hatched from him every year and he gives strong chicks with excellent egg colour. He looks after all the free-range girls.

Here we go, this has been a while in the making... We are considering selling our breeding herd of alpacas.
We have some amazing genetics in the mix: Nyetimber, Sh**un, The General, Kurrawa Legends Bandido, Wildfire, Blaine...
We have worked to improve the fleeces year-on- year by matching makes with females, and have always sold our fleeces on eBay for premium prices. These girls are good. There are 13, ranging from just under 1 year old to 10 years old. The 10 year old produces an appaloosa every year to our appaloosa male. She is the oldest of the group. Some of the females are pregnant and due in June. They are all very sweet girls.
As a starter herd, they are available with Biscuit, our appaloosa stud male and two young males. One is also completely unrelated and stud material, so there is everything one needs, in a single package, to keep the herd going for a few years.
Everyone is halter trained. Biscuit does alpaca walks and has attended events, where his 'giraffe' pattern has always been a hit.

We will be keeping a handful of the oldest and our family favourites, along with the boys (except for the three above).

In case any of the above scares you into thinking that we're wanting premium price, we're not; please get in touch if you are serious about building a herd and we can discuss price.
We would, of course, rather they went as a herd, so this will be reflected in the price. However, if you are considering taking on just a few, we can split them.

"Why are you selling, if they're so good?" I hear you ask. We are expanding the sheep side of the farm. Whilst we love the alpacas, we are building up a flock of merinos alongside the growing fine wool Portland flock and we are very excited about this development. Alpacas aren't leaving the farm, just the breeding side of things, don't worry.

We have lots of lovely pullets available. All hatched this year between February and May. They are either in lay or point of lay.
There are large fowl and bantams.

Due to current regulations, our girls are now housed indoors, in a spacious barn. However, they are used to a life of freedom, roaming a garden and would love it if they could find a home where they could regain their freedom. They were contained within livestock netting, so are not escape artists.
Beautiful, calm, healthy girls.
