WELCOME STEVE HOWELL 🤩

The band are delighted to announce the appointment of Steve Howell to the Solo Trombone chair.

Steve first became involved in brass banding at the age of 13 when he joined Lewis Merthyr Band, spending five years there before moving to Cory Band as Solo Trombone. He held the position for eight years before moving to Second Trombone in 2000.

During his time with Cory, Steve performed at the very highest level of banding and was part of the band's historic British Open and National Championship Double in 2002. Shortly afterwards, work commitments led him to step back from regular banding.
Between 2005 and 2007, Steve enjoyed a successful spell with Cwmaman Band, helping the band qualify for the National Finals and being awarded Best Instrumentalist at the Yeovil Entertainment Contest.

After a fifteen-year break from banding, Steve returned to playing with Vintage Cory and Mid Rhondda Band, before enjoying a short spell with Tongwynlais Band.

For Steve, joining Parc and Dare is something of a homecoming. Having grown up in Cwmparc, he is returning to his roots and to a band that has always been part of the local community he is proud to call home.

🚨Tuned Percussion Player Wanted🚨

We’re on the lookout for a committed and experienced Tuned Percussion player to join our friendly and ambitious band based in Treorchy.

With a strong contesting record, exciting concerts, and a busy calendar ahead, it’s a great time to get involved. You’ll be joining a supportive team of dedicated musicians in a welcoming and focused environment.

With our journey continuing into Championship section from January 2027, this will suit an ambitious individual.

What a weekend! 🎺

We’ve really enjoyed our weekend in the caravans in York for the National Brass Band Championships. A great weekend away with a great bunch of people, and we’re delighted to come away with 5th place in the 1st Section.

We were also really pleased to have the honour of flying the flag for Wales in the 1st section 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

A massive thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way, it means a lot to the band.

We now look forward to finishing off 2026 in style before embarking on a hard earned promotion to the Championship Section in 2027. 💪🎶

FROM TREORCHY TO YORK — PARC & DARE ARE NATIONAL FINALISTS!

The countdown is ON! ⏰

On Saturday 19 September 2026, the Parc & Dare Band will take to the stage at York Barbican as Welsh Regional Champions in the First Section, representing Wales at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain for the second consecutive year! 🏆🎺

After successfully defending our title at the Welsh Regional Championships earlier this year, the band have been busy preparing this year’s test “Beyond the Falls - The Smoke That Thunders” by Andrew Wainwright aiming to improve on its 4th place at Cheltenham last September.

What a brilliant weekend at Ponty Brass Festival! 🎺

We were absolutely thrilled to be part of the festival and loved performing a range of pieces from our programme.

We were also really proud to come away with a few special mentions and awards:

🏆 Largest banding family – to the Lewis family, who certainly know how to turn up in numbers!

🏆 Eldest band member – awarded to our very own Hugh Williams! A fantastic achievement and one we’re sure Hugh is very proud of! 😂👏

⭐ Special Mention – to Garyn Jones, who was recognised for going out of his way to help other bands throughout the weekend. A brilliant example of the spirit of the brass banding community.

A massive thank you to everyone involved in putting on such a great festival, and to everyone who came along and supported us. We had a fantastic time and can’t wait for the next one! ❤️🎺
